Smithfleld entered the State AA play-offs unher- alded. It had to win three gomes in a preliminary tournament at Trenton to gain a place in the District AA tournament. It had to win three gomes in the district tournament to qualify as an entry in the State Tournament at Durham. The Smithfleld team went to Durham, won easily in the first round, and finally met its conqueror in the semi-final round when it engaged the team that sub- sequently won the State AA championship β More- head. Reaching the semi-finals was a tremendous ac- complishment for the Smithfleld team, but the team gave o further display of greatness when ' it come back from the semi-final defeat and scored o conso- lation victory that gave the team the No. 3 ranking in the State AA Tournament.
