As a four year principal at SHS, Mr. Richard Saunders has worked zealously with the student body. By working long hours both day and night, he has made this school one of which we can all be proud. Mr. Saunders graduated from Caroline County High School, received B.A. degree from Ran- dolph Macon College, and his Master of Educa- tion degree from the College of William and Mary. After he served as a teacher and coach in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Saunders moved to Smithfield where he served as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal before becoming principal of Smithfield High School. The Senior Class expresses its sincerest appre- ciation for Mr. Saunders’ tireless efforts in leading us at SHS. Entering his third year as assistant principal, Mr. Charles England assumed his duties and worked hard to make a good year. Mr. England attended East Tennessee State University where he received his B.S. degree. He came to us from Jonesville High School, Jones- ville, Virginia. Along with his duties as assistant principal, Mr. England has coached the Varsity football team with J.V. boys’ basketball team. He was a co-sponsor of the Varsity Club. As a real friend to the entire Student body, the Senior Class expresses its appreciation to Mr. England for his active interest in the welfare of our school and its students. 9
