For a variety of reasons, several students who accepted staff assignments were unable to honor their commitments. Since deadlines inevitably approached, the staff of ANVIL ' 87 and the Smithfield High School Administration faced a dilemma somewhat analogous to that faced by college professors - publish or perish. We believed, in the final analysis, that the work contained herein would be published as is. It should be noted, however, that the publication of ANVIL 87 owes a deep debt of gratitude to the dedication and tireless efforts of Andrew Allin (Class of ' 88), Chris Querdn (Class of ' 88) and Gerry Morris (Jostens Printing and Publishing,). As is most often the case in a time of crisis, the stars of a few individuals truly shine. Many days were spent, well into the summer, piecing photographs and information together to complete the book as best as possible under the circumstances. We would ask, therefore, that the reader concentrate on the positive and enjoy the memories herein contained. DR. JOHN K.
