Anvil ' 84 2 J dtcdion Ov nina Sccti jjjemna Cantors . ion . ‘T ' acultu . School Club . P ' dflleitcf . . UticUrcla tnatt Satttor P cltvtic . ♦ % % Dedication On behalf of Smithfield ' s class of 1984, we would like to dedicate this yearbook to Mary-Margaret ladevia. Mrs. ladevia was the Anvil ' s advisor for the past 5 years. Her never-ending support and help was greatly appreciated by all those involved in the making of the past Anvils and along with that, the appreciation of this year ' s staff. We wish to send her the best of luck and happiness in her new home in Arizona. From Our Classroom Desks We Watched The Years Pass By. We Watched The Leaves Color And Fall, Then We Waited For Snow. And When It Came And Stayed We Shuddered And Silently Prayed For The Thaw. 4 5 6 It Was A Year Like Any Other Year; Except That It Was Our Last One At Smith field High School. Suddenly, Everyday Events Became Significant; We Saved Programs And Ticket Stubs And We Marked The Calendar With A Strange Sentimentality . 7 We Toiled And Trifled In A Symphony Of Seasons-Through The Autumn And The Wind The Winter-Striving Always For The Spring And For The End Or An Experience That We Will Never Forget . That End Has Come And Now We Realize That It Is Like The Spring , Only Another Beginning Leading Inevitably To Another End . 8 9 The Same Seasons Will Appear And Disappear Many Times Again, Only The People, The Places, And The Events Will Change- The Memories Will Endure, Let Us Pause For A Moment, Then, And Reminisce, 12 13 As graduation day draws near We stop and think of all the years that passed. The memories that each year held. And how they seemed to go so fast. We started as lonely freshmen, standing there, not knowing where to go. Filled with mixed and confused feelings, but soon we found our friends and it didn ' t seem so bad. And before we realized, the year was gone. And then our sophomore year began, It was better than the year before. We went to some dances, had our fun, And we thought about the coming years. When we finally reached our junior year, We thought it was really great, We had our prom and worked so hard to get us through the following year. But it was fun. And now as seniors, it has been the best. We hate to think it ' s almost over. Too soon the prom and great big night will come and go. Along with the rest, it seems so sad. We ' ll never forget our high school days. Or the feelings that we had, But now we come to realize that the passing years are part of life and we must go on. -Beth Greska, ' 80 SENIORS Allyson Angell Al, Randy Jackson Donna, let ' s go over you know who ' s. Football The 1984 Smithfield High School ' s Football Season was not a very successful season as football seasons go. The team was very young and inexperienced. Two players came back from the year before, co-captains, Ken Labrie (halfback), and the winner of the John Ames Award, for outstanding lineman, John Caliri. John was selected on the 1st team All-Division team and Ken Labrie was selected on the 2nd All-Division team. Quarterbacking the team was Mike Hart, who won the 12th Player Award. Seniors were, lineman Paul Hawkins; split-ends, Joe Jenkins and Seann Jackson. Other seniors who did an excellent job were Tony Antonucci, Erik Przybyla, Willey Salvati, and Steven Keene. With only three girls returning from the previous year, much re¬ sponsibility of rebuilding the team lay in the hands of Junior veterans Roxanne Reilly and Chris Charron. Newcomer coach Diane Smith, along with the help of these two ex¬ perienced Sentinels, did a tremendous job in breaking in the new members of the team. Going into the last two weeks of play, the standings were very close. It was figured that Woonsocket had to lose against Central Falls and Burriville needed a victory over Mount St. Charles. Along with these two conditions, Smithfield had to beat Cumberland. Everything worked out as it had to. Smithfield pulled out an upset over Cum¬ berland, thanks to Bob Squillante ' s lone goal in the game. In the final play-offs, Smithfield was defeated by the top ranked Hendricken with a score of 4-0. Field Hockey Sporting a three win and seven loss record, this year ' s varsity Field Hickey team did not have the fortunate opportunity of making it to any post season play. Of the eleven players on the starting team, ten were seniors. The Tri- Captains whose job was a tough assignment this year were Lyn Banville, Tricia Enos, and Karen Geremia. The remaining seniors includ¬ ed Jeni Audette, Emily Belt, Rachel Bridge- house, Paula Bruno, Cheryl Forest, Sue Leddy, and Theresa Schlemmer. The only underclass¬ man who consistently started was Lori Ca- tuogno. In addition to Lori, the remaining players on the team were Kathy Leddy, Missy Nocente, Karen Petrucillo, Mary-Beth Walsh, and Sandy Weber. It will certainly be a tough job to replace the hard working and dedi¬ cated seniors but the outlook for the remain¬ ing players is a good one. To ail those seniors, may you prosper in all that you do and may you always keep a special place in your heart for field hockey. 82 Emily plays in deep concentration. There was a fine supporting cast of seniors; Ken Labrie and Ken Brown, other starters, plus a fine bench in Dave Passarelli, Chris Walker, Mike Corvans, and others.
