PATRONS Memorial .. Charles Plaisted So brief a time he spent here We cannot help but mourn; Without a wave of that cowboy hat, Charles suddenly was gone. We had no chance to say goodbye, There wasn ' t time just then; But we can take a moment now For Until we meet again. Bright, yellow daffodils waving on the lawn, Dance us into springtime and suddenly are gone These are Cathy ' s banners, reaching to the skies, We see them oh so vividly, but through misty eyes. We miss you through all the seasons, and though we always will You ' ll return to us each springtime in the happy daffodil Lee Hawkins On the baseball diamond, Lee wore the gold and green Giving all-out, extra effort For the glory of the team. Though we are bereft and sorrowful Deeply saddened by his fate, We also hope he ' s surely safe... Rejoicing at Home Plate. Dedication Many years may pass Good, bad, the memories will still last; We ' ll take our leave, say good-bye. And the heartfelt sorrow will simply pass us by, For tomorrow, we ' ll make a better life, One without sorrow, hunger or strife... 3 High School — The four years of retreat and enjoyment in the hallways and corridors; a goal that stands and leads beyond itself; the discovery of ignorance in the four years of preparation and becoming. The time between summers, The four years of questions and laughter between childhood and the world; The years of growing restlessness and deepening repose, of nights so late you finally see the sun. The time of Monday mornings and Friday afternoons; only memory will simplify and define it. 4 5 6 Education is man ' s enterprise to understand himself and his world; An educated man understands himself only in dialogue, exercises his freedom best under discipline, and achieves his individuality. Education leads, ideally, to wisdom. But wisdom itself is unending. And so education begins when we learn restlessness and the place and the meaning of rest. 7 Classes end — Football is the rest of an autumn afternoon in old clothes torn and uniformly stained with grass; It is achievement and a Charley horse. Lind up, set down, contact, slip away. It is better in the rain and best in winning; It is hustle and playing. 8 Man plays In other costumes, and the stage, perhaps, is the place where man is most himself... where masks reveal more than they can hide, and life and death are resolute and playful. It is man ' s special gift that he can both reflect and recreate upon a stage where mystery is delightful, and madness can make sense, and the truth becomes spectacular. 9 The green trees of autumn are green again by spring. We are enclosed together studying throughout the year. The winter snow is silent; we work. The world is man ' s dominion, but We are God ' s image and nature can be seen as ours. We flourish and grow in this world. 10 11 ■V- ■ ' Eating is our pleasure and our need— infrequent breakfast, and the run to lunch, announcements, tickets and complaints, conversation and a borrowed cigarette. We meet to eat and are most human then. Leisure is freedom — It is proms and hockey tournaments, rock songs, singing, a car, a picnic, an hour spent alone. Leisure is a sweatshirt, or a book, some friends... 14 11 il i ljl Leisure is spent together or alone. It is purpose and reward, a time of growth, the attitude of thought. Leisure is the meaning of high school, a pause and a beginning. Leisure is learning. 15 BRUCE ADLER CLAIRE ALBANESE DAVID ALLEN 18 LESLIE BASSETT SHEILA BATES MARCIA BATTEY 19 ROBERT BOYLE JOANNE BELL KATHERINE BOLTON CHRISTINA BLACKMORE LAUREN BOUCHARD DAVID BROWN JAMES BUONACCORSI 20 JEAN CALCAGNI A Final Tribute to Dave Brown (10 24 57 - 4 3 75)—in his own words... and maybe someday — In a crowd of many is this not one man strives the same everywhere? to be heard, I think that but all his words the faults of mankind fall upon deaf ears. are never thoroughly and no one listens dissolved, there is poverty yet, and he offers it is never too late his suggestions for man to get together of a finer life, and now, today. but no one listens man should seek better ways of there is strife and grief living, and he tells people and maybe someday to have faith in war, themselves and in and all things associated their God with war but no one listens and everything else that is harmful there is war to man ' s existence and he talks of will be things the happiness peace of the past brings, the love and the a time, understanding, but no one listens very long ago a poem for a vanishing thing cry, cry for the memories you hever had, as I am crying now, embrace the memories, of which your feelings are remembered, and see the world, — blurred and far away. through the tears shed for things that never were and for things that never will be when they never happen... Don ' t Quit When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you ' re trudging seems all uphill. When the funds are low and the debts are high. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit— Rest if you must, but don ' t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don ' t give up though the pace seems slow — You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor ' s cup; And he learned too late when the night came down. How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out— The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you ' re hardest hit— It ' s when things seems worst that you mustn ' t quit!
