FOREWORD In early history a custom of forming trade guilds arose. Men who shared vocations joined together to further the interest and better the quality of their work. Among these guilds was one formed by men engaged in building. Perhaps this was the most important, for life is a job of building. We strive to build a home, to build a community, to build a nation, to build a better world in which to live. In school we, too, are like the early guildsman for we are united by a common bond--the desire to learn. We also have our masters, our craftsmen, our apprentices. Our masters are our teachers and advisors--those people who are experienced in guiding others to become desirable citizens. Those of us whose Smith's School education is complete are craftsmen. After four years at Smith's School, we are ready to apply the knowledge we have learned. The underclassmen are the apprentices. These students are learning the process of building. All of us--faculty, seniors and underclassmen--are striving for the same goal. For our iob is meeting and accepting our future responsibilities. 2
