Deadly Ernest It all began when Henry's boss fired him and his girlfriend threw him overboard and Aunt Ethel ordered him from her boarding house because of no rent money. Poor, homeless Henry met Mr. Bumpus who tells him life has dealt him a miserable blow and who has a friend named Ernest who for 517.83 can get poor downtrodden souls out of their misery. a i Sarah Bearley, Linda Worsfold and Susan Blomer rehearse. Mike True and Stacy Mast in Deadly Ernest Introducing . . . Mrs. Roberts, head of our Speech Department, came to Smith-Hale in 1973 after teaching part-time at UMKC and Longview. She entered the field because she had seen how the ability to communicate effective- ly could change lives. Mrs. Roberts is in charge of the spring play. When a student tries out they are judged on enthusiasm, facial expressions, vocal flexibility, projection, creativity and ability to take direction. To select a play she tries to find one that will appeal to junior high audiences and that will provide appropriate challenges to the actors. This year's play, Deadly Ernest did just that. Henry .....
