She still returns to Bermuda during the summer and Christmas holidays to visit many native relatives. Marta loves Bermuda because of the beautiful beaches, flowers, and around-the-year pleasant weather. Speedball, kayaking, swimming, and deepsea fishing are some of the things she and her relatives enjoy in Bermuda. by Carla Wolters S-01H0N0'10 01'-4K Ed Magee Kelley Magill Sean Mahurin Cricket Makris Kristi Mall Jennifer Malone Cris Marriott Staci Marshall Michele Martin Tammy Martin Travis Martinez Staci Mast Nikki Mattison Chris McBee LeRoy McConnell Shawn McHenry Stacey McMiIlin Andrea McMurray Debbie Mead Donna Mead Patty Medley Shawn Mercier Laila Mercomes Sean Meskill Mary Miller Wayne Miller Kim Mills Pam Minter Jay Minton Daphne Mitchell Charles Moldenhauer Cordell Mondaine Carla Monroe Vince Morgan Sherry Moss Jeff Mowen Alfie Munoz Jennifer Malone Robert Murtha Tim Newcomb Becki Newcomer Eddie Newsom Susan Newsome Chris Norman Trey Olsen Joel Osborn Justin Osborn Mike O'Shea Darren Ostrom Stacy O'Sullivan Julie Owens Niecey Parker Michael Parr Eric Patrick Billy Payton Andy Pectol Tina Perkins Mark Pierce Tandria Potts Paul Powell Nick Prough Angie Pruett Corkey Putman Bob Rabinowitz Richard Rains Lakesia Rambo Shelitha Ramey Erica Rayford Elliott Redmond Brenda Reed Taarron Reed Meg Riordan Donyel Rivers Shonda Robinson Cyrus Rodgers Ro Rodriguez Melisa Rogers Scott Ross Bobby Rough Chris Rouse Kathy Ruch Chris Ruckman Michelle Rudy Stan Rush Marc Russell Matthew Russell Melissa Russell Michael Russell Micki Scheel Patrick Schierholz Cindy Schmidt Jason Schmidt Clara Schnell Tiffany Schrarnl Tanisha Scott Marci Searing Sean Shelton Frederick Shonkwiler Tina Sickler Robert Simrell Darrell Smith l.aDainty Smith Melissa Snider Chris South Dan Spaw Heidi Spear Bridget Stamper Tom Standley Dana Stanton Stephen Staples Chris Steele Jeni Stewart Julie Stowe Tim Strickland Kim Stubbs Christine Stuckey Shervette Stuckey Tina Surface Shay Sikes Heidi Taylor 33 Denise Terry Tonna Tharp Brian Thompson Kenya Thornton Joshua Tierney Robyn Tindle Aaron Tobaben Stacy Trammell Normally Michele Martin would let us see her locke However, locker clean out was that day and she hadn cleaned hers yet! Bangladesh is between India and Burma. Although the sisters lived semi-comfort ably, when asked if they enjoyed their stay, their an- swer was negative. This club was responsible for the taking of pictures and the developing of them for the yearbook as well as setting up various photo displays throughout the building. The students spent a great deal of time planning layouts and copy for your KIVA. This yearbook is the result of their hard work. Activities this year included election of officers, annual Christmas pizza par- ty, participation in the Great American Smokeout where the club sent out heli- um balloons which were intended to stop people from smoking. Deadly Ernest It all began when Henry's boss fired him and his girlfriend threw him overboard and Aunt Ethel ordered him from her boarding house because of no rent money. Poor, homeless Henry met Mr. Bumpus who tells him life has dealt him a miserable blow and who has a friend named Ernest who for 517.83 can get poor downtrodden souls out of their misery. Henry, of course pays the money, and therein lies the story. a i Sarah Bearley, Linda Worsfold and Susan Blomer rehearse. Mike True and Stacy Mast in Deadly Ernest Introducing . . . Mrs. Roberts, head of our Speech Department, came to Smith-Hale in 1973 after teaching part-time at UMKC and Longview. She entered the field because she had seen how the ability to communicate effective- ly could change lives. Mrs. Roberts is in charge of the spring play. When a student tries out they are judged on enthusiasm, facial expressions, vocal flexibility, projection, creativity and ability to take direction. To select a play she tries to find one that will appeal to junior high audiences and that will provide appropriate challenges to the actors. This year's play, Deadly Ernest did just that. Henry ..... Chantel Crawford attempts the longjump during the heptathlon. -mfs, This year there were many exciting sessions of intramurals. From the fall to the spring, many T-Bird athletes came out for these sports. During fall intramurals, Mr. Davis and Mrs. Taylor sponsored volleyball, soccer, and the fall heptathlon. Gold medals and second and third place ribbons were won by many students in the heptathlon. The highlight of fall intramurals was the homeroom volleyball tournament. Winter intramurals were composed of basketball, basketball, and more basket- ball. Miss Weddle and Mr. Mitchell were the sponsers. This year schools all around the metro- politan area collected money from students and staff members. Smith-Hale Junior High gave an overwhelming S2644 which was enough to lead the district' in competition. One homeroom that really did an excep- tional job was Mrs. Taylor's P.E. class of 34 girls. They gave S24-2.76, averaging 57.14 per student. Mrs. Blackwell's science class was a very close second. Mr. Ham, the principal, said, It has been a tremendous effort by the school as a whole. It's great! by Denise Terry and Carla Wolters Food for the Needy . . . Mrs. TayIor's girl's P.E. class is pictured above with the 8 lb. candy bar they won for having high money turn-in during one day of the candy sale. Mr. Gillespie's homeroom is shown above drinking soft drinks after having high money turn-in on another day of the candy sale. Pictured below are several PTSA parents who helped with record-keeping during the candy sale. Several parents worked daily during the sale, and on the final day, many more were re- cruited to help with the great amount of money brought back in. This year 22,650 candy bars were checked out. Between October 3 and October 14, 19,650 candy bars were sold! Although this year's candy sale didn't break any records, Mr. Brown, the as- sistant principal in charge of the sale, was very pleased with the results. He did not have a single complaint. The money raised for Smith-I-Iale's own use after the prizes and cost of the candy had been subtracted was over 38,500 This will be used for PTSA, Student Council, dances, Pho- tography Club, Science Club, and much, much more. This year's high salesman was Jason Krueger who sold S350 worth of candy. The win- ner of the S100 drawing was Dana Braden. This year's high classroom in sales per person was Mrs. Taylor's homeroom, 102. This extraordinary class sold over 32,000 The neat thing was that the average sales per person was about S59 a student! Great job, Smith-Hale! Keep up the great work! by Jennifer Garnett Auswrn uwq Ms. DePaIma's class chose the 8 Ib. candy bar also when they had high money turn-in. The final day of the candy sale also meant bringing back in that candy which was unsold.
