SMITH ACADEMY HATFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS Academics Activities Sports Seniors Editors ' Message The Editors attempted to bring you a true picture of the Smith Academy student when we assembled the 1968 ECHO. We tried to record his academic life and extracurricular activities in the best way possible, through pictures. Through the samples we selected we wanted to show the spirit and tradition that prevailed throughout the four years we spent at Smith Academy, illustrating a closely knit student body. We would like to extend our thanks to our superintendent, Mr. Skarzynski, to our teachers and most of all to Mrs. Spakowski, our advisor, for the help and cooperation they have given us throughout the past year. Also our heartfelt thanks goes to the patrons and advertisers without whom the publication of this yearbook would not have been possible. The Editors of the yearbook hope this book will impress upon all who read it the importance of our school in the lives of all who attend it. The Co-Editors I i ROW ONE: L. Shaw, C. Spakowski; our teacher and advisor it is with gratitude that we, the class of 1968, dedicate our yearbook to her. Through her patience and understanding we have been able to overcome problems we were not able to solve ourselves. In this way we would like to express our sincere thanks to her. Plato once said, The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life. At no time in history has this observation been more important. In our modern and mobile society, with its recurrent technological revolutions, the financial and social status of each citizen is almost directly related to his educational achievement. In turn, this educational achievement is measured by the quality of the education received by the individual, and the quantity absorbed by the individual. I am extremely proud of this graduating class. Each member of the class has proven he has the determination to succeed in spite of obstacles to his success. I hope you will continue to greater success as I know you will strive to reflect credit upon your school, your community, and most important of all, your parents. Mr. John A.
