in October we staged a successful social event, an Indian Summer dance, with the Town Hall colorfully decorated with pumpkins and cornstalks. The highlight of the year was the ordering of our class rings, which we all happily received in February. Re-entering Smith Academy as proud and mighty upperclassmen, we, as juniors, elected the following students to lead our class: President, David Byrne; Vice-Presi- dent, Carol Maslanka; Secretary, Judy Porada; Treasurer, Patty Wilkes, and Student Council Representatives, Mary Ann Osley, and Albert Cechvala. Claire Galenski joined our class along with Ray Tremblay, a transfer from Chicopee. This year it was our enviable privilege to welcome and initiate the freshmen. Hilarious stunts and a dance following provided an enjoyable time for all. The next major activity was the much dreaded prize speaking. Emerging as victors were Maureen Molloy and Henry Wykowski. On the evening of May 27, we put on our memorable junior prom, Stair- way to the Stars. As classes adjourned that year, we looked forward to our final year, one we vowed would be remembered. Eagerly returning for the culmination of our four years at Smith, we promptly elected our class officers: President, David Byrne; Vice-President, Carol Maslanka; Secretary, Joan Goller; and Treasurer, Patty Wilkes. Elected as Student Council Repre- sentatives were Albert Cechvala, Mary Ann Osley, and Maureen Molloy. We found that again our class had been reduced in size by the loss of Henry Wykowski and Claire Galenski. We held three very successful food sales to finance our Washington Trip. In November, the Senior play, The Ghoul Friend was held with many seniors taking part. In February, we held a combined Valentine and victory dance to celebrate the winning of the Hampshire League by our basketball team. On April 17, THE DAY arrived - the day we left for Washington on our class trip. After an eventful week, we returned to Hatfield for the few remaining weeks of school. On June 16, we stood on the stage of the Town Hall, each to go his separate way, eager to undertake the challenge of life.
