OUR EDITORS MESSAGE Well, that time of the year has finally come! The school year- book is here. For many of the students it is a ioyful time, but for the seniors, it is a time of mixed emotions. The underclassmen-Qykforward tolnext year with antici- pation. They ponder over what challenges next year will bring, what prestige they will gain, being a year older, and a year wiser, and how many new friends and memories they will find. On the other hand, the seniors look to the future with ex- pectation. We will leave high school, and our friends, to embark upon the most important iourney of our life, the venture into the harsh world. During the next few years we will find many prob- lems facing us. We will be able to cope with these problems, and meet the challenges with intelligence and determination. I be- lieve, that through the combined efforts of our faculty and admin- istration, we will be able to succeed in life. 4 I During our years in high school our faculty and adminis- tration worked in unison to sculpture our minds into those of the scholars of tomorrow. I believe that because of their untiring devotion to education, we owe them a vote of thanks. But, we seniors are not the only ones that have memories. Every student in the high school has memories of those ioyful years he has spent there. We, of the Nunundah Staff, believe that this edition of our yearbook will bring back many memories, not iust at the present, but in future years as well. I sincerely hope you enioy this book and will cherish it as one of your most precious belongings. My very best wishes for success, James Schnepp- Editor . I Ie .WWW ! . I E55 5 g A . This edition with its clear, distinct photography and excellent layout is far removed from the early post-war editions. It certainly is a reward for the efforts expended by members of this senior class and their yearbook advisor, Mrs. Lombard. We might say that the beauty of this book illustrates the degree of technological development which has greatly improved the yearbook processes in recent years. These new and complicated processes are examples of our present electronic age, They typify the great advancements made in many of the functions which affect our daily living. Education is and always will be the door through which we learn to adapt our- selves to rapid and sometimes radical changes. The skills acquired today may be outmoded tomorrow. We must be capable of learning and adiusting to new ideas, situations, and vocations. The late President Kennedy has recently stated that our educational system today is neither adequately adiusted nor adequately financed to meet present day needs, and thus fails to provide full educational opportunities for all citizens. ' SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL Mr. Hugh N. Lunn Mr. Fred Zampogna, Supervising Prin cipal of Elementary Education PRINCIPAL Dear Graduates, Please accept my sincere congratulations upon your successful com- pletion of high school. For you the first part of your education is over. I hope you realize that your complete education is never over. You will continue to learn as long as you live. Your teachers for the past twelve years have tried to give you the solid educational foundation that is needed to meet the challenge of today's complicated world. It is now up to you to build upon this founda- tion. You will be limited only by your own personal ambitions and desires. I offer you my best wishes in the years that lie ahead. May they be successful and satisfying for each one of you. In 8th grade was our two-day trip To Harrisburg, Pa. We saw the sights and battlefields, And had a wonderful stay. To the old school we said good-bye As we ended our freshman year, Oh, how the memories we recall Are yet so clear and dear. As sophomores, we entered our new school Our future bright and iolly. We held our Sadie Hawkins Dance And none were melancholy. Our class rings came our Junior year, lt meant we joined the ranks We were upper-classmen now But still pulled childish pranks. Our Prom is one we'll ne're forget, To us it was the best, We danced and danced all through th And didn't stop to rest. e night Our senior year has been the greatest, We've had some real grand times, But soon the tears will come As we leave Smethport Area High. So now we're out We're on our own, Success is at our hands. It's up to us to use our heads And do the best we can. The most talked about game of the year took place on October IB, when the Port Allegany Gators met their downfall at the hands of the Smethport Hubbers. This trouncing 34-7 victory gave Smethport a clean sweep of the Little Four. The Hubbers entered the decisive Emporium game the proud possessors of a 6-2 record and left the field as the undisputed champions of the Allegany Mountain League. We would like to thank the coaches, James Donovan, Neil 68 Daniel Ferman, Dennis Maynard, Mr. Donovan, Patrick Chamberlain, Manager. iN, I Bailey, Clarence Strobel, and Henry Reap for handling their tough coaching iob with ease. Also, the senior lettermen: Al Baker, Joe Cory, Dan Ferman, Pat Foley, Butch lsadore, George Keller, Denny Maynard, John Norman, Bud Osborne, and Rod Rishel, all deserve a vote of thanks. But, we ore especially proud of our two most valuable players of the year, Rod Rishel and Bill Grega. Congratulations, Hubbers, on a very successful season, the victories of which would have been impossible without the teamwork, and capable coaching that turned the Hubbers into a championship team. A Cheerleader may be blonde, bru- nette or red head, but must have the personality of Miss America and the constitution of King Kong. A Cheerleader practices hard, makes good grades, has rhythm, pep, bounce, beat, loyalty to school and team, energy to go on and on, ambition to lead. She shows respect for others, is eager to do any task presented to her and serve as an example of the AlI American Girl. A Cheerleader has on command a voice with the volume of Tarzan calling for Jane and the ability to extract equal volume from all her followers. She is Miss Pep, she is Miss School Spirit, she is the Pied Piper. Where she leads, her school will follow! J ames Schnepp Treasurer. . . .... Gwen Guenter Under the able leadership of our advisor, Mrs. Anne Anderson, the Student Council has completed a successful i963-64 school year. The Student Council is made up of two girls and two boys from each of the senior, iunior, sophomore, and freshmen classes, and one boy and girl from both the 7th and 8th grades, all elected by their classes. One ofthe main accomplishments ofthe council this year was the pass- ing of on admendment to our Constitution, which allows the President of the Special Education Class to serve as a voting member of the Council, thus giving every class in the school voting privileges on the Council. After attending a Student Council Workshop held at Slippery Rock, Pa., this post August Jim and Pat came back with many new ideas to help make the Council a better, more active working part of the school. The Council this year has accomplished much good, making it an asset to the school and community. Patrick Foley First Row: Mrs. Anderson, Cathy Donovan, Cathleen Nick. This organization stemmed from the Young Men's Christian Association when it was found that the girls, as well as boys, needed the program the YMCA offers. Our local club, advised by Mrs. Lombard, consists of thirty-six girls. Each year we send our four newly-elected officers to Grove City College for the Officer's Training Conference. We will this year send two girls who will represent our club in the Mock United Nations, which is held in Harrisburg. Throughout the year we carry-on money-making proiects and service proiects such as our visit to the County Home and our contributions to World Service. ln these ways, we fulfill our Try-Hi-Y purpose.
