'e . 'M 23+ if 1 ' 1 1 -ld The Student Council has played an active part in Smethport Geofge Shifey High School forthe past six years. Howard Hull was the first pres- ident, and Mr. Rugh was the first faculty adviser. Since that time there have been seven presidents: Courtney Howe, David Hallstrom, Tom Kohn, Don Shirey, Bill Angell, Bob Lindquist, and George Shirey. Mr. Glarner became the adviser in l952. Through the leadership of President George Shirey, and the supervision of Mr. Glarner, the council has been very successful this year. Some of the accomplishments of the T954-55 Student Council are: Some members of the football squad were sent to Port to visit their school the day before the game to try to create better sportsmanship between the two schools, Snooks Cooper and Jackie Green were sent to the State Student Council Convention at Abington, Pa., an efficient hall patrol system was set up under the leadership of Alan Wright, paid assemblies were ordered for next year, pennant pins and string ties were sold by the members of the Council. The other officers of the Student Council besides President, George Shirey are: vice president, Alan Wright, treasurer, Snooks Cooper, and secretary, Jackie Green. We would like to thank the Student Council members for helping to make our school better through student government and we are especially grateful to Mr. Glarner for helping in many ways to make our Council successful. 14

Q . Looking back from the vantage of thistwelfth year we recall the problems, pleasures, foil, laughter, and tears which these years have brought us. The knowledge, experience, and confidence which we have gained in the passing of these years is the foundation of our future. . Many successful days are past. Through the guidance, devotion, and instruction of the faculty, we crossed into new fields to assume a greater dignity--and with this dignity, a greater responsibility. We, as a class, are proud of our accomplishments in fellowship, scholarship, and activities. We hope that, after we are graduated, we will continue to develop, to grow in the spirit instilled in us, and to be true sons and daughters of our Alma Mater. President Sylvia Salvadori 0 Vice President Howard Digel Secretary . . . Penny Robey Treasurer. D . . ' 0 . . . Kay Boswick
