V9Nnn.7 ii is-,1 J X lass Jlaistutp Our S.H. S. tribe was formed in 1947 with one goal in mind--to finish twelve years of education as our white forefathers call it. The young maidens in our tribe that year were Mona Holland, Wanda Sue Smith, Metha Gilley, Wynell Bolin, Virginia Fondren, Ann McAllister, Ouida Peters, Kathryn Speigner, Irene Killingsworth, and Grace Trawick. The braves were Charles Sheffield, Randall Coker, James Roland, Earl Mack Gavin, Wayne Williams, J.L. Pippins, Billy Eu- banks, and Dewey Anderson. Two braves, Max Bolin and Charles Sims, Joined us a the last half of the year. Our leaders were Mrs. Billy Segrest, Mrs. Wallace Hardy, J and Mrs. Farbie Sorrells. I ' ' In the second year these maidens joined our tribe: Betty Hicks, Myrl Hendrix, and Glenda Helms. Ann McAllister, Grace Trawick, Kathryn Speigner, and Earl Mack Gavin deserted us that year. The squaws who taught us that year were Mrs. Elizabeth Davis and Mrs. Berta Stephens. ' In the third year Ann McAllister joined us after beincg away many moons. Deloris Ann Ridenhour and Lorell McNeil came to us from another tribe that year. Betty Hicks an James Roland left us for a short while but rejoined us later. Our chiefs that year were Mrs. Sybil Sellers and Mrs. Brainard Richards. In the fourth we didn't gain any maidens or braves. We lost a maiden by the name of Lorell McNeil. Our tribal mothers were Mrs. Sadie Hixon and Mrs. Annie Lois Wiggins. James Roland, Earl Mack Gavin, Kathryn Speigner, Betty Hicks, Gail Stewart, Barbara Hatcher, and Julian Aplin came to us in the fifth grade. Ouida Peters joined another tribe for a short while. Mrs. Myrtle Head and Mrs. Mayme Grant McArthur were our chief squaws. Our sixth year tribe was enlarged with the addition of Ouida Peters, Betty Russell, Grace Trawick, and Gene Kent. An Enemy tribe stole Kathryn Speigner, Gail Stewart, Wayne Williams, Barbara Hatcher, and James Roland, but we got them back later. Our Indian squaws were Mrs. Bernice Hornsby and Mrs. Blennie Underwood for the eventful year. In the seventh year, we little Indians got lost many times, ut our tribal chiefs, Mrs. Elizabeth Watson and Coach Hubert McNeil, always found us. James Roland rejoined our tribe. ' In our eighth season our tribal mothers were Miss Norma Foster and Mrs. Charles Dalton. Barbara Lewis, Lorell Mc- Neil, Wayne Williams, Janice Moss, and Kathryn Speigner came into our tribe. Betty Russell and Gene Kent were the only Indians we lost that season. In our ninth season the maidens and the braves were separated--which we didn't like. Gail Stewart, Daisy Baxley, Reita Bowden, Martha Jean Bolin, and Joe Dawsey came into our Indian group. Mrs. Paul Dalton and Mr. Joe Earl Sellers were our leaders that year. In the tenth year with Chief Coach David Snell and his squaw, Mrs. Mary Snell, as our instructors, we increased our tribe with many new Indians. The maidens were Catherine Bedsole, Geraldean Wright, Dorothy Kornegay, Betty Russell, and Joann Miller. Joann was elected a Favorite in the Who's Who election for the SIGMA ETA. These maidens came from a Fadette tribe. The braves from that same tribe were Jimmy Seay, Millard Whitaker, Larry Sewell, Robert Jenkins, Jerry Murphy, Jerry Jenkins, Gene Adams, Ronnie Register, Winton Rogers, Charles Thurman, Bobby Gene Register, and Herman Smith. From the Malvern tribe came the following maidens: Barbara Hatcher, Verlon Strickland, Faye Hall, and Joann Mills. The braves were Levon Fortson, Charles Saunders, Harold Hughes, Fred Jones, and Gene Kent. A young maiden, Gayle Dean, joined us from a distant Virginia tribe and James Reeder came from the Tate tribe. In the eleventh year our squaws were Mrs. Sara Mac Buttram and Miss Celeste Foster. Probably our most memor- able event in the eleventh year was the Junior-Senior Banquet, which we enjoyed very much. The theme of the feast was The Gay Nineties and we did have a gay time. We also had quite a few Juniors to make the Who's Who spot that year. They were: Grace Trawick and Gayle Dean, who were Favorites, Jerry Jenkins Filled the Best School Spirit spot, Gayle Dean and Gene Adams were the Cutestg Wayne Williams was the Wittiest brave around. Earl Mack Gavin rated Mr. F.F.A. Ann McAllister was named Miss S1ocomb. We are now Seniors and we find we have many more worthy celebrities. Grace Trawick is Miss Slocomb and Faye Hall is alternate. Those in Who's Who are Daisy Baxley, who has the Best Personality --she was also Home- coming Queeng the Wittiest is Herman Smith, Ronnie Register is the brave who is Most Likely to Succeed, Earl Mack Gavin is Best All Around while Bobby Gene Register is the Most Dignified. On the Senior's Elite page--the Senior's very own page--you will find Geraldean Wright and Randall Coker to be the Most Mischievous Seniors we have. Jerry Murphy and Verlon Strickland are the Quietest and Wayne Wil- liams and Wanda Sue Smith are the Wittiest. Mitchell Pippin and Gayle Dean are the Most Co-operative. Bobby Gene Register and Metha Gilley are the ones Most Likely to Succeed and Jimmy Seay and JoAnn Miller are our Sweetest Seniors. We are in our final year at Slocomb High. I'm sure our Indian counselor, Mrs. .Ida Bell Phinney, will always be dear to our hearts for she is always ready and willing to help us in any way. We look back and remember also our other vyonderful instructors and our chief, Mr. J .B. Davidson, along with many other happy memories which we shall IIEVCI 0Ig6E. I'm sure that many of us are wondering what our fortunes will be in the new and unexplored chapter of life ahead, gullawhatever the future may bring, we shall always remember the wonderful times we had together at Slocomb High c oo . 127 ,, A BIG CHIEF J'.L.
