Progress was perhaps the key word of 1958-59 at Slippery Rock- three-fold progress. For you the student, it has been a year ofpersonal development. You have attended classes, met new people, and tried new ideasg there have been times ofjoy and times of despair. As a re- sult of these experiences growth has taken place. You have journeyed some distance along the road to becoming a teacher. Some of you, having gone as far as this institution will permit, will soon be full- fiedged teachers. This does not mean that your growth should stopg rather it should bejust beginning. In addition to individual progress there has been progress on an institutional scale. Slippery Rock State Teachers College is advancing and progressing. This past year buildings began to take shape before our eyes. Construction was begun on front campus for an auditorium, a new men's dormitory is emerging behind the Grillg a field house, a new class-room building, three new dormitories, and a library annex may be expected in the near future. Also on the increase is Slippery Rock's enrollment. In 1957-58 the enrollment was 1,0355 this year it has reached I,I69Q by 1960-61 it is expected to reach I,325. It is conceivable that by 1970 the enrollment may total 2,ooo or more. The members of this year's graduating class can look back at their individual accomplishments with pride. As alumni, they will be able to look at their Alma Mater with even greater pride. They will see a new Slippery Rock, a Slippery Rock which affords greater oppor- tunities for more students. They will see a truly progressive institu- tion of higher learning. Q.
