Foreword During the proceeding year we have often wondered if the day would ever come when the 1951 Saxigena would be completed. Now that it has, we find ourselves in the confusing situation of being both elated and expectantly anxious. To further explain our feelings we would like to tell you a little more of the heart and soul of the book which you are now reading. This Sax” had its beginning in the spring of 1950. With the help of the preceding staff we were initiated into the problems of yearbook planning. During the summer, however, planning really began in earnest, and we came back to school eager to get to work on the actual book. We will never forget the splendid co-operation which we received from the Seniors, Administration, Faculty, and Underclassmen. Without their help our task would have been impossible. Our main purpose in creating this edition of the “Sax” has been to provide the class of 1951 with a book which they will keep all their lives to remind them of their college days. If we have only succeeded in this respect, all our efforts will have been more than worth while. Therefore, it is our pleasure to present to the class of 1951 their Saxigena. It has been an honor to have had the privilege of creating it for you. Our only hope is that it meets with your approval. Dedication The paramount achievement of a person of boundless energy and enthusiasm seems to be the knack that he has of directly transmitting these qualities to the people with whom he comes in contact. No better example can be found of such a person than Mr. Clyde Lady. No person who has ever watched him briskly walk across campus, or listened to his clear, sharp voice, or watched his keen eyes dance back and forth as he addressed you, can help but Ik- deeply impressed by him. “Discouragement” seems to be a word which he has never even included in his vocabulary. He is always able to meet every situation squarely, conquer it, and move on to greater achievements. Because of his wholesome and vibrant personality Mr. Lady has become to us not only a teacher and an advisor, but also an inspiration. If we can but imitate his splendid example, our lives cannot help but be enriched. To show our appreciation for all he has done for the students of Slippery Rock, we humbly dedicate the 1951 Saxigena to Mr. Clyde Lady. 6
