BANQUETS X and R Banquet On Saturday even1ng December 18 the commuruty enjoyed xts annual X and R Banquet The evemng meal was prepared ln Mex1can style and served plpmg hot by ga1ly dressed gxrls When the tantal1z1ng aroma of the hot tarnales covered w1th ch1l1 reached the dmmg room we all reahzed we were famlshed After enjoyxng all the food r1ght through the last b1te of apple p1e we were enter ta1ned by a program wh1ch mcluded the song Manana whxch was sung mn caballero style led by our Master of Ceremomes Harold Ray Gage a resxdent and garage operator 1n Slxdell The clxmax of the even1ng came after the group was led 1n a group song 1n round robxn style by Tommy Read of S11de11 Then everyone was remmded of the commg banquet and w1shed a Merry Chrxstmas and good mght But the guests remamed and renewed old acquaxntances far 1n the n1ght Jumor Semor Banquet An mformal banquet was neld for the Jl11'l1OI'S the Senxors and the faculty 1n the crystal ball room of Marqums Hall Saturday Aprxl Z3 6 O0 P M The theme of spr1ng was Carrled out 1n decorat1ons and program Easter 111185 and fern were used on each table Each program was enclosed 1n an art1st1c hand pa1nted booklet cover The program consmsted of a welcome address and a response read1ngs and the s1ng1ng of love songs espec1al1y adapted to spr1ng After the banquet the JUHIOTS and Senxors went to N T S C aud1tor1urn to attend the stage show Everyone reported a pleasant even1ng It was agreed to meet m the crystal ball room next year for the Jumor Senmor Banquet 36 D I . , . CLASS PARTIES On the nlght of September Z3 1948 the Sen1or Class met on the Denton Creek Br1dge on lrhghway for a w1ener roast our sponsor had trouble f1nd1ng hxs g1rl fr1end and was late and of course he had all the food I-le made amends nowever by prommsmg us another party After all had f1lled the1r stomachs games were played and a good tlme was had by all The .Tumor class met 1n town and went together as a group to the Ponder gymnaslurn Carl Hudson took a truck load wh1le others went m cars Many Jumors are skxllful skaters but others declared they needed more practlce 1f they are to do any fancy skatlng On a fall October evemng the seventh and emghth grades met after school and were taken by Merle Otella and Ras Fortenberry to the Denton Park for a p1cn1c There we shared our baskets of lunch and each enjoyed a cold coca cola After that we hurrled to the roller sl1de swmgs merry mms ups and rock1ng horses where we played untll dusk Then we went to the theater to see The Babe Ruth Story e enjoyed the evenxng the p1cture the drug store refreshments afterwards and the r1de home On Tuesday evenmg February 15 the seventh and elghth grades gathered at the home of Opal and E B Fortenberry who along wxth Irene and Lee Shaw served as hosts for a gay Va1ent1ne party A each of us arr1ved we dropped our valentmes 1n a b1g wh1te box decorated w1th red hearts Later after we had enjoyed the many games of hearts donkey and a number of other entertamxng games these valentxnes were dxstrxbuted Then we gathered about the table for our refreshments From round a center p1ece of a l1ttle whxte tree decorated wlth red hearts we were served on a whxte d011y a th1ck sl1ce of good chocolate cake and a glass of refreshmg punch Room decoratxons xncluded a large red and whxte cup1d that hung from the center of the cz lllng We all enjoyed the party and left hopmg xt would be repeated agam soon 35 1 . .
