HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL A hlgh lxght durxng the fall was the Halloween Carmval whxch was enjoyed on the even1ng of October ze Spookxng practxcal jokmg and pranklng began the holzday and to that was adde d bmgo the fmshmg well grab bag s1deshows a negro mmstrcl and a fashlon show that featured everybody from Lana Turner to barefoot B111 Through the cooperatmon of the school commumty an ample supply of chxcken and dressxng and other savory rxch and delxcxous food was prov1ded and served ln the home econommcs department by women 1n our commumty After eferyone had eaten all he wanted had part1c1pated 1n most of the 3Ct1V1tIeS avaxlable and had contrxbuted h1s last cent to some one of the queen cand1dates we all assembled m the gymnaslum to wxtness the coronatxon of the queen A whxte throne w1th trellxses of fall leaves and flowers on exther sxde along w1th two floor baskets fxlled wxth marlgolds and fall chrysanthemums formed the background for the queens and thezr attendants Mr Alv1n S1tz crowned Bermce Nxlson queen of the school and Wanda Fletcher queen of the grammar school After the ceremony our hlgh school boys played a h1ghly contested basketball game agams the Semors of 1948 Wxth thxs clxmax the carmval ended Z9 - u n A ' .
