T0 THE CLASS OF 1975: One of the most important tasks facing each of us as Americans is the obtainment of education. As adolescents, each of you learned that you had a specific goal set before you to be students of life and develop into mature adults possessing the sense of responsibility needed to face today's challenges. This yearbook symbolizes the final year of this preparation and many learning experiences are reflected dur- ing this time. Graduation is indeed an important milestone in each of your lives and each of you should feel the well-deserved pride for this accomplishment. However, graduation is not the ending to your development. On the contrary, this event in your life marks the very beginning of your learning experiences. Our America is in need of responsible young men and women who perhaps will not be pre- sidents or governors but ones who will possess leadership qualities in everyday situations in life that involve dealing with people. Your generation has been characterized by an urgent sense of determination for inf dividualism and justice, and with this distinct quality you have the opportunity to utilize your talents and fresh ideas in achieving your dreams. The education of a man is never complete. Herbert Spencer once said, HThe great aim of education is not knowledge but action. Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal and are the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.H I encourage you as graduates to learn from experience and to apply your education. The avenue for obtaining knowledge is optimistic and the choice to begin the process is yours. Continue to examine the world you face and begin the learning adventure ahead of you. Sin rely, I 1 is ' igh ol Pri 1 To Graduates of 1975: In writing my first letter to a graduating class in some years, I find myself somewhat reminiscing on past graduating classes. You have completed the first leg of your educational jour- ney and for some perhaps the only leg of this journey. We sincerely hope we have prepared you to cope and be re- sponsible in the world you are now entering, and in the society mf in which you are going to join, revise, and pass on to future graduates. I am positive you are capable and that you will make yourselves, your school, your community, and your parents proud. I would be remiss if I did not say I will miss you, your spirit, and the positive contributions you have made here at Canastota. Hy one wish is taken from an old Irish saying: nMay the wind always be at your back and s smile be always on your face.n Good luck to all of you in your endeavors. ncerely, sep W.
