Youth means a temperameutal predominance of courage over timidity, ofthe appetite oladventure over the love ol' ease. This often exists in a man of fifty more than a boy ot' twenty. Nobody grows old merely by living a number olyearsg people grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin. but to give up eu- thusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry. doubt. self-distrust. leur and despair, these are thc long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust. Whether seventy or seventeen there is in every being's heart the love ol' wonder. the sweet amazement ol' the stars and starlight things and thoughts, the uudauut- ed challenge of events. the unlailing child-like appetite lor what is next. and the joy and the game ol' lil'e. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt L as young as your SCH' eonfidenee,as old as your feargas youngas your hope. as old as your de- spair. In the central place ol' your heart there is a sensitive station. So long as it receives messages ol' beauty. hope. cheer, grandeur, courage. and power from the earth. from men and from the lntinite. so long are you young. Author llnknown We are childreu, still growing. searching for sell'-identity.We have passed through these portals. absorbing the knowledge olothers. Now we must move on . . . leaving our legacy to those who remain behind. May their search for truth lead them to a better understanding ol' those around them but most ol' all themselves. ig '13 .' if V 'M :ff 1, if ,,. .ff gi' .'r,'wf.w5zwJzn--'r:m.un'nanm -sf-zvmnaaxmf' v. f-:a9:mz4wf.rz:w, Q r - I 2 3 S Si E 5 , - im 4 'asm 'lc...1n. .ang A ff. Sullivan ff I J 25- T0 THE CLASS OF 1975: One of the most important tasks facing each of us as Americans is the obtainment of education. As adolescents, each of you learned that you had a specific goal set before you to be students of life and develop into mature adults possessing the sense of responsibility needed to face today's challenges. This yearbook symbolizes the final year of this preparation and many learning experiences are reflected dur- ing this time. Graduation is indeed an important milestone in each of your lives and each of you should feel the well-deserved pride for this accomplishment. However, graduation is not the ending to your development. On the contrary, this event in your life marks the very beginning of your learning experiences. Our America is in need of responsible young men and women who perhaps will not be pre- sidents or governors but ones who will possess leadership qualities in everyday situations in life that involve dealing with people. Your generation has been characterized by an urgent sense of determination for inf dividualism and justice, and with this distinct quality you have the opportunity to utilize your talents and fresh ideas in achieving your dreams. The education of a man is never complete. Herbert Spencer once said, HThe great aim of education is not knowledge but action. Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal and are the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.H I encourage you as graduates to learn from experience and to apply your education. The avenue for obtaining knowledge is optimistic and the choice to begin the process is yours. Continue to examine the world you face and begin the learning adventure ahead of you. Sin rely, I 1 is ' igh ol Pri 1 To Graduates of 1975: In writing my first letter to a graduating class in some years, I find myself somewhat reminiscing on past graduating classes. You have completed the first leg of your educational jour- ney and for some perhaps the only leg of this journey. We sincerely hope we have prepared you to cope and be re- sponsible in the world you are now entering, and in the society mf in which you are going to join, revise, and pass on to future graduates. I am positive you are capable and that you will make yourselves, your school, your community, and your parents proud. I would be remiss if I did not say I will miss you, your spirit, and the positive contributions you have made here at Canastota. Hy one wish is taken from an old Irish saying: nMay the wind always be at your back and s smile be always on your face.n Good luck to all of you in your endeavors. ncerely, sep W. We would like to dedicate this section of our year book to the newly developed school spirit and give a special thanks and recognition to all coaches and ath- letes of 1975, for without them it would not have been possible. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. ACTIVITIES Q-I It was a challenge. We learned that to put a book like this together took time, patience, and an understanding of just what it was we were striving for. This book is a collection offeelings, a mosaic pattern of captured memories, thoughts and friends. ln essence, we have attempted to portray what our years of high school have meant to us. We, the editors ofthe 1975 Yearbook, would like to ex- perss our gratitude to the dedicated few who helped make it possible, with a very special thanks to Miss Martn and Mrs. Grossman. 5 t YEARBOCK STAFF Steve Hesler. photographer, Sandy Bell and Dave Rogers, co- editors. ,,., J' vi .fr .J ZQ IU' Ah f'7 Mrs. Grossman and Miss Martin, advisors. It was but yesterday we met in a dream. You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longings have built a tower in the sky. But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn. The noontide is upon us and our half waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. And if our hands should meet in another dream we shall build another tower in the sky. The Prophet Kahlil Gibran
