Try them on, try them off. Polish them on shirtsleeves, strut in them. preen in them. And all the while-what are they? Promises, perhaps, of fulfilled dreams and scaled ladders, of steps up, and small stumblings down. Of misty bright tomorrows wherein lies the achievement of an unknown goal. Illusions, too, of an approaching but all-important ending that is really only a beginning, a commence- ment. Of an achieved status which is a myth beyond the shelter of a classroom. Of a superiority which is only ego, a nobility which is only self-deception. And symbols, always, of the years and months and weeks behindg of the eternities ahead. Of things that have happened, and things that haven't. Of bright- ness, and of shadow. Of the known and of the un- discovered. Of days that will pass by, and moments that will never arrive. Of the attained and of the unattainable. C a r e f Ll l H 0 V. Mine's nicer than yours Heavy, isn't it? ucv' phi ,ggix J The rings are four years of high school. Years as gay as the characters on the ringg as enmeshed in the life of this area as the legends behind those characters. Years of growing with and into the community. Years of learning about, and loving, and finally leaving, for a while, or longer. But never years to forget. fl' L 1 Q1 f.-, I - if i S YJ A ' 'ing 3 4-'S I 'V', ' is 4 1 1 n Y S' 3 1 0 . gi x A3 Q A' V' A-s vs Z 4' B ' A ' Y 'ZA ,ff ' Q w. 4 25 - , 4. Editor-in-Chief MARILYN ANDREWS QyQI2 The Legend staff began a disorganized year trying to organize and tore hair up to the last deadline. The five o'clock oil in the lamps of 102 West Hall was almost exhausted by the end of the year, as were those who labored in its light, but the Legend emerged triumphantly in spite of the many, well- aimed barbs of cruel fate that threatened to sabo- tage the book's debut. The staff wishes better luck, however, to next year's officers in keeping unde- veloped film unexposed and in coming out first in the deadline race. It also hopes to augment student interest in the sports program. The club, led by President Frank Scappaticci, Vice-President Wesley Trunko, Treasurer Jerry Gagliardi, Secretary Jimmy Patterson, and Sergeant at Arms Douglas Macko, will raise money through outside projects to finance the purchase of blazers for all members. Their ad- visor, Mr. Bachar, assists the club in arranging for an annual interclass and an intraschool faculty basketball game as an athletic night involving the entire student body. The Rifle Club, with Mr. O'Toole as its advisor, was organized to help interested boys develop, with the greatest safety possible, a skill in the handling of rifles. This year's president is George Anderson and although the club has not been too active this year, the members hope to arrange a busy schedule of rifle meets with other schools. 7 6 97? f Q C' f 6 l73 ,,4,l!f s The Girls' Athletic Association hopes to create an interest in physical recreation among the girls of our school.
