There is not a kid in the thousands I've known that I didn't like. Sometimes I don't like the things they do, but they'll take their medicine--as long as they know you care about them. These are the words of Slauson Junior High School's princi- pal, Harold M. Logan. Mr. Logan is clearly a man who likes people and loves youngsters. 'In Ann Arbor, we have one of the finest groups of children in the United States. They are fundamentally good. But we must keep our finger on things. We must give our youngsters the security of knowing what they are supposed to dow! Mr. Logan was born and raised in Niles, Michigan. After graduating from Niles High School in 1926 as class president, he went to Alma College where he majored in history and political science. At Alma, he was managing editor of the college paper and yearbook, was on the football team, held many class offices and graduated summa cum laude in 1931. He received a scholar- ship for graduate work at the University of Michigan where he received his Master of Arts degree. Mr. Logan's first teach- ing position was at Hastings High School in Hastings, Michigan. In 1936 he married and moved to Ann Arbor to teach social studies here at Slauson. He's never quite gotten away from the place. Four years after he began teaching at Slauson he was named it's principal-- that he has been ever since. He and his wife, Zatae, have two daughters who are both married and both Junior High teachers. Mr. Logan has, of course, been involved in many Ann Arbor activities--Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the United Fund, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and this year, he was made an honorary member of the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club. The Slauson principal loves sports. For years he handled Golden Gloves boxers in the west part of the state. He helped inaugurate Ann Arbor's junior high football program. ''When a little fellow tackles a big guy and brings him down, it does something for him that words can never do. Mr. Logan is looking forward to having more time for some of his favorite sports such as hunting, bowling, golf, and fishing. Mr. Logan sees as part of his job--and that of every teacher and parent--helping youth to develop into good Americans, re- spectful of traditions, and aware of their civic duties. ''We must not allow them to sit back and accept the sacrifice of their forefathers. We must help them to progress...
