Iw--- . , xgugk. , PROPHECY CF THE CLASS CF '42 YEAR 162 As we drop in 'on a happily married couple, Mr. M. G. Davis and wife, formerly Miss Mary Fran- cis Landreth, we find them eagerly awaiting the arrival of the famous nationally known artist, Mr. Everet Robertson and wife, formerly known as Miss Jenny Jou Garland. Ohl M.G., dear, we MUST invite some of our old friends over to make this visit complete, said Mrs. Davis. I think l'll call Jimmie Jean and see if Teddy has come home from the bank yet. Good- ness, M.G., I wish you could have been a banker's son. Maybe we could be wealthy, too. Well, replied M.G., it might have helped out if you had had some oil wells in your back yard. Time passes and we find Mr. and Mrs. Swanner, J. E. Eckert, who married Donna Sanner and is al- ready the proud parent of five children: and the mayor of the city of Slaton, Mr. Joe Turner and wife, Billy Francis Lively, sharing old memories of their school days with the Davises and the Robertsons. I want you all to see the scrapbook of newspaper clippings of our old schoolmates back in l942, said Mrs. Davis as she hurried to present the book. Some of the first clippings that caught the reader's eyes were: H. Slick Mansker opens 44th Casino with such world famous entertainers as Jr. Jones, his trumpet and his orchestra: Connie Henry, the noted dancer, who, incidentally, has been engaged to Harley for the last five years: and their featured vocalist Mrs. Billie Faye Lard. Other clippings' titles read: Miss Viola K. Mar- tain gets coveted role as Lady MacBeth: Kenneth Tudor and Billy Bob Tibbs discover new planet in their perfected rocket ship: Dr. Garnetta Bailey dis- covers cure for common colds: Miss Wilda Hannah and Miss Phyliss McReynolds, co-authors of the novel Came With the Breeze, which was best seller in 1961, are offered Sl0,000 for movie rights by the Holden Studios, Inc. fMiss Annie Laurie Ashley is his present wife.l It is expected that the famous glamour boy, Charles Reese, will accept the leading role: Frank Todd and James Thornton, sym- phonic composers, break attendance records at Carnegie Hall: Captain Luther Faulkner retires from active duty to coach Army Football Team: Lt. Gen- eral Jack Cleveland flies home to wed famous author, Miss Phyliss McReynolds: Miss Juanita El- liott, noted accordionist, tours Europe: Aysaha Deavers and Mary Bell Splawn' to enlarge South 10th Grocery. - It also stated that a beer par or, soda fountain, and a floor show were to be installed for the convenience of the study halls that were held there instead of at high school: Coaches Billie Francis and Wilma Jean to appear at Madison 'Square Garden with State Champion Volley Ball eam. As the night grew old, the party began to recal more recent memories and each individual co tributed his part to bring those school chums wh were far away, nearer. J. E. Eckert brought up the subject of his childre in school and said that Cletus Tucker, superintend ent of the Slaton Schools, said that he had recentl heard from Charlie Suit, who was in the mone and playing sugar daddy to half the girls in Ne York. Mr. Suit recently donated some money t the Mercy Hospital whose head nurses wer Thelma Jo Felton and Fern Wheatly. J.E. also sai that when he left the building he ran into th English IV teacher, Bonnie Mercer, and the Spanis teacher, Corinne Cates. Other names were discussed, such as Ma Francis Joplin and Mary Alice Johnson who wer chief cooks and bottle washers for Bruce Maxey owner of the Slaton Bakery. D. W. Walston, hea of a large trucking line, married Rebecca Wilson Then the conversation advanced to the deep subiec of Bill Lokey and Maxine McMillin in their hig school days and after much discussion of love, som one dropped the remark that they were married an he was head of the Westinghouse laboratories i Pennsylvania. Then the visitors nearly 'burst theff' sides laughing when Teddy said that he was out a Sam Finley's night club and saw Lyda Bell Nesbitt Cleo Joyce Marr, and Margret Mosser entertainin with their fan dance such prominent citizens a Miss Berta Raye Reed, who is now modeling for th famous dress designer, Mr. Billy Miller: Johnett Foster and her husband: Mr. James Sideman, owne of a large skating rink, and his wife Betty Lou. Mrs. Billy Francis Turner said that Marion Gordon dropped in on her for a short visit. Marion saich she was just hitch-hiking through on her tour o the good old .U.S.A. Mrs. Robertson said that Dolores Grabber, Irene Gentry, and Marie Hartnett were working in the beauty shoppe where she had her last permanent. She went on to say that she talked to Phyliss Atnip, the widely known dress designer who nearly set the world on fire with her new sensation the gownless eyening strap. As they brought their pleasant evening to an end, Mayor Tumer reminded them that Mary Nell Culver was married to the foreman of the chain gang on the Santa Fe and also he saw Mary Ruth Verble and Mary Ann Schmidt in a recent carnival that came to Slaton. Mary Ann was the world's tallest woman in the Midget Show and Mary Ruth was the woman who dived from a 100-foot tower into a pool of burning water. So 'the old school chums bid adieu to a pleasant evening of high school memories and as they left, Mr. Davis shouted after them, Drop by and see Mr. Roy Boyd. He's still county superintendent.
