The fountain was dedicated on April 25, 1th approorlate public ceremonies consist of a parade, music, and speeches hlch showed the high apprecin ation of this public glft by the volun teer firemen of the borough The statue represents the figure of a fireman with a lantern suspended ln ing oonfldingly on his left arm To gether, these symbolize in a most ex Dres ive manner vivllance and humanity two prominent characteristics of their protect ve association The ligure on the pedestal 1S now worn with age, but still stands stead fast at its Dost. Many years ago horses, pulling carts of slate, slowly climbed the Hain Street hill The teams of norses chose the site in front of the post Off1C6 as a resting place, It was for this reason, for both man and beast, that the separ ate proge tiny basins for running water were exec ed, Only one basin for man's use still remains: The globe of the lantern 15 red gla s which encloses an electric bulb. At one time, this bulb was lighted every night throughout the year, In the dark ness it hung as a beacon of assurance the community: To this fireman fountain, for feel lt is symbolic of the community a whole, we dedicate the Yearbook 1947. K ' i l . ri 1 i TF UWHU WQJURENES Under the supervision of Mrs. Kane, our attractive majorettes entertained thousands of spectators during the past year with their well planned and accur- ately performed drills. Traveling with the band to all the football games, both at home and away, and attending all the basketball games at home, these high- stepping lassies displayed wonderful training and cooperation in their strut- ting and baton twirling. During the course of the year the girls irtroduced two special features l the slow step, and Q2 the use of fluorescent batons. The slow step was first used near the end of the football season, and the light-giving batons near the end of the basketball season. Both attractions were greatly enjoyed by the crowds. The drum majorettes took part in the Annual Spring Band Concert, and also participated in several parades in which, with the band, they won worth while prizes. L EEUU he Slatington High School band completed its eleventh year as the mus- ical or iization of our school. The colorful outfit under the capable leader- ship of Mr. Acker played at all football games and at all home basketball games. As a reward for marching in the rain on Armistice Day, the band won S40 at Palmerton. Besides this, the band marched in the Slatington Halloween pa- rade and played in Rockne Hall early in January. Everyone enjoyed the Spring Concert in the Smith Hall on May 9, and also the concert presented by several Lehigh Val- ley schools on May 25, in Allentown. Com encement was the final opper- twnity for the musicians of the class to play in the good old S.H.S. band. iand director Mr Edgar Acker Student dlrector James ccheetz Band ma1orette Doris Neff Clarinets John ones Shlrley o helfler Homer Dale Sm Richard Vertv Franll n Beers Sterlilf Vvans Burdelle .iller Bett Snyder Patricia Sryder John Jones X ... 2 I .J Personnel Baritone Pussel Heintzelman Donald Jon s Alto Horns dwir liller Darwin Marshall Bass horns Rorall Meckes Grace Jlll Trombores Lee Blose Huey Sauerwine Ernest Evans Coriets James Qcheetz hilmer Handwerk lcbert Krum harry Scheffler Richard Jones David Marshall Colin Macrindle Drums Kenneth Scheffler Rlghter Shiner Ted VanNorman k8D19th Snvder Lawrence George Marjorie Halres Edward Daniels , . .. .1 ' I , - - rf T - ' c ' .nr ng D H e r ' Ev s . , ,.
