The Prelimi- nary Scholastic Aptitude Test prepared students for the SAT, which is vital for col- lege applications. A good device to pre- pare students for the other tests, such as the Achievement and the ACT, the PSAT also gives students a perspective on how they compare with the national average. For juniors the PSAT also acts as the Na- tional Merit Qualifying Test. Merit scholars are chosen from the highest scorers in the nation. Starting with the PSAT, the long list of testing that college bound students began in the sophomore year.
