Aint ' ',.h 1 , Miss Helen Baker Mrs. Carmela DiGrazia Miss Elyse Dukatz Mrs. Dorothy Gray Girls had many alternatives to choose from including shuffleboard and cross country running. The girls' physical education department, headed by Miss Helen Baker, offered pass-fail courses at midterm to vary the activity schedule. Coach Paul Berger headed the boy's gym department which stressed physical fitness for class participants. Boys did calisthenic drills and ran for circuit training. Weightlifting, basketball, and girl-watching rounded out the program Even though the entire PE staff was kept busy with extracurricular sports, time was always fou nd to instruct students in basic skills. Curriculum gains professional medical course Students who were interested in health careers such as laboratory technology, nursing, or physician's assistance were offered a new pre- professional course. The course introduced and exposed students to lab work and hospitals. Students studied physiology the first semester and lab work the second. Heading the science department was Mr. Herbert lorritsma. lVlrs. Juliette Dunham, chemistry teacher, is not pictured. ln Mr. Wilbert Yuen's physiology class, students learn the characteristics of different human tissues.
