International Week mixes cultures International Week ClVlarch 11-153 involved different cultural backgrounds in a colorful variety of events ranging from tasting international cuisine and dancing to informative lectures and slide shows. Daily themes centered attention on the Latin, European, Asian, and African origin of the student body. The final day of the week was deemed Melting Pot day to encompass all cultu res and culminate the festivities. Activities including invitational assemblies, food preparation, and sales were scheduled by the Marcus A. Foster Intercultural Club. In stiffscholarship competition in various fields, many seniors were chosen to represent Skyline. Certificates, prize money and scholarships were achieved. Nominated by faculty and counselors, students were awarded plaques by the Bank of America in four general fields with a chance to win 5550 to 351,000 in regional competition. Outstanding in the field of homemaking a senior girl gained the Betty Crocker award for Skyline. Two students qualified as semi-finalists and were able to continue in the Hertz Foundation Scholarship contest. Eight students became finalists in the National Merit scholarship program. They were judged on the basis of their National Merit test scores, another examination, and teacher-counselor evaluation. Five students were chosen as Skyline's representatives for the National Council of Teachers of English Award. To better business and economic abilities in future businessmen, the Gemco Department Store Foundation sponsored a scholarship contest. Skyline's winner was a senior boy who went on to future competition. A large number of seniors earned the title of California Scholarship Federation Sealbearers. These students were members of CSF for at least four semesters, one of which was in their senior year.
