Ten year hex now broken, football team beats Oakland l i Highlighting the season against arch rival Oakland High, the Titans stomped the Wildcats 24 to 6. The win enabled the Titans to tie for second place with Oakland in the final Oakland Athletic League standings. The first quarter ended in a O to O tie. Mark Palmore, playing for the injured Rusty Keyes, opened the scoring for Skyline with a three yard run in the second quarter. The first half ended 6 to O when the Titan defense stopped a Wildcat drive holding them on the one yard line for three plays. Two plays after receiving the second half kickoff, Palmore took a pitch around left end and rambled 58 yards to score. All-City halfback, Gene Howard, scored on an eight yard run in the fourth quarter. Brent Thrams ended the scoring and Oakland's winning streak over Skyline when he intercepted a pass in the final minutes and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown. Traveling to Piedmont to open the season, the Titans avenged last year's defeat by trouncing the Highlanders 32 to 16. ln the pre-season home opener, the Tamalpais lndians were skinned 27 to 6 in a game highlighted by three scoring passes by All- City quarterback, Donn Falaschi to All-City end Don Walden. Closing the pre-season against the Hillsdale and Napa teams, the Titans were defeated 41 to 12 and 24 to 8. Opening the OAL season at Skyline, the team was upset 26 to 22, by Fremont. the eventual league champs. Undaunted by opening game loss, the Titans travelled to Tech. winning in last 10 seconds, 22 to 16. Hosting the Castlemont Knights on October 29, the Titans were upset 18 to 16. Determined to even their record, the team traveled to Mack seeking their second OAL win. The first half ended with a Falaschi to Walden scoring pass tying the score 6 to 6. During half time Coach Tony Fardella inspired the team to play their best. They responded by receiving the second half kickoff and marching the length of the field to score. Skyline notched its second OAL victory 21 to 14 which set the scene for the showdown victory over Oakland.
