Spring musical is sellout Fiddler On The Roof , a current Broadway musical, was presented by the fine arts department in March. Mr. Rawley Farnsworth, Mrs. Joanne McKray, Mr. Richard Adams, Miss Elyse Dukatz, and Mr. William Rader spent many rehearsal hours with the 300 students involved in the performances, working together and coordinating the directional, musical, and technical aspects of the production. Due to their leadership and outstanding organization, both performances were considered by many people to be the best musical Skyline has ever presented. The cast, chorus, dancers, and crew members were very satisfied with the success of the musical. Tickets were sold out both nights. Steve Kalm as Tevye, and Gayle Barsamian as Golde, played the leading roles. Highlights of the production included the enjoyable music scores. such as lf I Were A Rich Man , Matchmaker , Sunrise Sunset , and Do You Love Me? , the dream scene and the wedding dances. The sentimental theme of breaking tradition and leaving the past behind touched the hearts of many in the audience. Agreeing to the marriage of his daughter and Lazar Wolfe, Tevye and Lazar lDan Samrickl make a toast. Apt seniors gain awards plus honors Scholarships were earned by many deserving seniors in pursuit of higher education. Among the scholarships won were a four year monetary grant to the University of Southern California, a S1000 scholarship to Linfield College, and a S500 award to Rice University in Texas. Other students won first through third places in the Skyline Market Art Contest sponsored by Piedmont Grocery Company. Chosen by they senior class council, the recipient of the daughters of the American Revolution Girl of the Year Award was honored at a luncheon given for all DAR winners in the area. The Miss Teenage Citizen award was won by a Skyline senior. The contest wassponsored by the Montclair Recreation Center to honor an outstanding senior girl and give her the chance to go on in further competition.. Qualifications for both DAR and Miss Teenage Citizen included a good service record, leadership in school clubs, and cooperation with students. Winning a S100 award and S100 for traveling expenses, a junior was honored at a governor's luncheon and was flown to Washington D.C. for the finals in an essay contest on employment of the handicapped. The Bay Area Engineers honored a senior boy with a S400 award for outstanding performance in the field of engineering and electronics. An outstanding senior girl received the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award, a national award given to the highest scoring girl in the field of Homemaking in every school. Another nation-wide foundation has awarded the status of semi-finalist to two unexcelled senior boys. The very desirable scholarship was given by the Hertz Foundation. The Exchange Club of Oakland sponsored a contest for most outstanding senior boy and girl of the year. Candidates were judged on their scholarship and citizenship records and on amount of school and community service. Coordinating all scholarships and awards was Mrs. Marjorie Beach. Scholarship winners from various colleges are Pam Scott-Linfield: Denise Hodges-USC and Nancy Tague- Rice.
