Spirit leaders cheer team to first win over Oakland l...,..,..K.,. During Skyline's victorious football season, there were laughter and tears behind the spirited cries of the members ofthe three cheer squads. The cheer leaders, song girls, and letter girls of 1971-72 led Skyline rooters in cheers which stimulated the Titans to a long-awaited win over Oakland, placing them second in the Oakland Athletic League. The 20 girls who made up the three cheer squads sponsored projects to raise money to pay for their new and imaginative uniforms. Their routines and yells raised enthusiastic and devoted spirit among appreciative fans at the rally preceeding the Homecoming game. Skyline's cheerleaders, song girls and letter girls will never be forgotten because of their bright smiles and strong school spirit. Stuolents elect black queen For the first time in SkyIine's history, a black candidate was chosen for Homecoming Queen. Michelle Wainwright was chosen to represent the school as the 1971-72 queen. The coronation ceremony took place at the evening dance, Friday, November 12. Escorted to the dance by Brent Turner, the queen received the crown from last year's queen, Sharlyn Falaschi who returned for the event. Chilled by the brisk winds, the Homecoming candidates and their escorts were introduced to the capacity crowd during halftime at the game. Along with the support of the candidates and the enthusiastic crowd, the Titans beat the Oakland High Wildcats for the first time. LEFT: Chi candidate Jan Dunlap with her escort Todd Ainsworth.
