Mrs. Mary Fischer and Mrs. Hazel Butler managed transcripts for all students. After years of relieving the pressures in the counseling office, Mrs. Betty Caria, upon leaving Oakland, was replaced by Mrs. Lynn Sutton. ln the principal's office was Mrs. Elizabeth Connolly, rthe new Regional Occupation Center clerk. She replaced Mrs. May Lim who became another typist in the principal's office. Human Relations department was headed by Mr. Eugene Horwitz and Mrs. Mildred Marcus. ' ' School Within a School'proves relevant School Within A School, an alternative to the system, completed its first year of existence. ln addition to the normal class offerings, many extra curricular activities were scheduled. Guest speakers from all over the country came, movies were presented, and field trips to varied points around the Bay all added to the school's ability to reach students. Before school started, some of the students and teachers got together for a camp-out at Kerby Cove. The purpose of the trip was to develop good teacher-student relationships, a more relaxed atmosphere. Teacher Mike Manshardt leads class members Lynn Wanrhaftig, Laurie Swift, Kathy Biasca, Becca Hoff, Gary Manshardt, Sherry Piper, Robert Watts, and Robin Burns in an environmental studies course in SWS Left: Silhouetted in solitude, Robin Burns spends a moment of contemplation at Kerby Cove in the School Within a School June outing.

,,,. ,, U . if 1 From the original September 1961 resource room for physically handicapped students, many programs evolved. Under the guidance of Miss Helen Desort, this program developed into many fields of learning. These include a program for the educationally handicapped headed by Mrs. Margaret Pickford. The oral-deaf classes. under Mrs. Mary Thompson, was aided by two new teachers Mrs. Judith Herlacher and Mrs. Willa Young. New this year is a learning adjustment program which is under the direction of Mrs. Marja Virjo. Custodial Staff, headed by- Mr. John Cordano, was very effective this year in keeping the campus clean and in running order, even though the staff is smaller than it has been in the past. Campus Control staff, led by Mr. Norman Case, maintained order on school grounds, in spite of the fact that there were many more students this year. Skyline's custodial staff includes Olga Costello, Henrietta Ramirez, Harry Kiefer, John Cordano iheadl, Nathanial Walker, Jim Parent, Harold Figaro, and Santago Simon.
