Swim team is triumphant for fifth season For the fifth consecutive year, the girls' swim team, coached by Miss Shirley Heady, won the league championship. The title was won in one meet against all the Oakland schools at Oakland High. Although Skyline is not equipped with its own pool, the swimmers found time for practicing elsewhere. Girls' crew, a member of the Lake Merritt Rowing Club, was coached by Edward Lickis and Don Powelson. The girls practiced every Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school. Often the girls had to row in early morning. Their races sent them to Long Beach, Santa Barbara, and for finals, all the way to Seattle. Finishing third in the Oakland Athletic League championships was the girls' basketball team.
