fl X Team members place in interstate competition Skiing Mt. Hood in a training camp during summer vacation helped Rick Taylor, Kathy Taylor, Dick Peterson, Richard Miller, and Martha Fitzmaurice give good performances in the California-Nevada lnterscholastic Ski Federation league meets. During the Christ- mas holidays Skyline's ski team members practiced for the coming meets at the Tahoe Ski Bowl and the Donner Ski Ranch. The following week the skiers had their first meet at Boreal Ridge in which they took an overall third. Dick Pererson placed sixth in the 27 gate course. ln their next meet at Mt. Rose, the ski team took fifth. ln the cross country finals at Boreal Ridge. Skyline took second overall in the seven- school affair, bowing only to Tahoe Truckee. The head coach was Mr. Eugene Rockeman who was assisted by Mr. Norman Brown in charge of the junior varsity. Robert Hyerle was the captain and assistant coach for the cross country team. The members were Scott Crosby, Richard Miller, Martha Fitz- maurice, Robert Hyerle, Karen Wemmer, Barbara Mosle. Flying down the hill in the giant slalom at Mt. Coach Powles to retire .Tx r gr ag' 5 m t 5 Coaching for his last year before retirement, nationally known Coach George Powles prepared his team for Oakland Athletic League competition. With the hitting power of Kirk Suronen and the pitching strength of Rich Rose and Mike Bowen, the team strove for a victorious year. They worked to improve last year's record in the OAL of five wins, and five losses. Adding more power and depth to this year's team were returning seniors Steve Knox, Lynn Reinhard, Don Walden, Glenn Gordon, Brad Shuster, Dale Benson, Bob Breilh, and Rick Carrothers. Also helping out were juniors Hank Wirta and Al Carmona. Moving his outfielders to the left, nationally recognized Coach George Powles gives hints for last year.
