MILESTCIES IN RETROSPECT In 1929, twenty pairs of tiny feet skipped gaily up the hill. Yes, we were in the first grade. Miss Iona Devers was our teacher. In March two more pairs of tiny feet, belonging to Don and Ted Barber, joined the first twenty to go to the'Skidmore Public School in the old building. Our enrollment was as follows: Jessie Lou Newton, Betty Jean McDowell, Delpha Chaney, Doris Mae Littles, Maxine Messner, Anna Belle Morton, Ruth Heig- ler, Betty Jane Randall,.Letha Mae Murphy, Jenny Bose Bennett, Franklin CoJ:wevI'l,f- Richard Argo, George Hicker- son, Dale Johnson, Wilbur Hilbert, Darold Kaughman,Rob- ert Edwards, Donald Bassett, Delmer Johnson, and Charles Lowrance. Of these, Betty' Jean McDowell, Anna Belle Morton, Betty Jane Randall, Letha Mae Murphy, Franklin Colwell, Richard Argo, and Wilbur Hilbert are now grad- uating. we were very excited our second year when we moved into the new school building. Miss Iona Devers was still our teacher, During this year Letha Mae Murphy left our group. Our third year, when we were in Miss Maud Linville's room, Dale Johnson, Darold Kaughman, Ruth Heigler, and Jane Randall were not with us. With open arms we wel- comed Vernon Hitcheoek, Junior Linville, Darold Yates, Chrystal Davison, Guila 'Flctchall, and Paul Fletchall. Jeanne McGinnis canm :bring this year. In the fourth year Donald.3assett left us to join the fifth grade, and Franklin Celwell, Delmer Johnson, and Wilbur Hilbert left schoolg but again we gained new classmates: Billy Coston, Junior Keever, Gilbert Kon- dall, Aleta Hord, and Dorothy Key. Again Miss Maud Lin ville was our teacher. , The fifth grade did terrible things to our total, as we lost Junior Keever, Gilbert Kendall, Dorothy Key, Ruth Heigler, Don Barber, and Ted Barber, and gained only Harold Reynolds and Dorothy Russell. Miss Mar- garet Parker was our teacher. The sixth grade was rather uneventful. Miss parker was still our teacher, and we were the oldest on the lower floor. Irene, Esther, and Barbara Dolph came. We were saddened during the following summer by Miss Parker's death. The seventh grade! We cane upstairs to have depart- mental work. If we were lost in all the space and con- fusion, we never admitted it to ourselves. Miss Jones was new our sponsor. Barbara and Esther Dolph left, but Dorothy Joan Peter came. At the beginning or our eighth year we were happy to have Wilbur Hilbert with us again and also to have his brother, Lawrence. George Hickerson moved away, Then we became green freshmen and really a part of the high school. we were accepted as such by the seniors who had a lovely party for us and who were very ta

easy with regular initation stunts. The new members of our freshmal class were: Dorothy Horn, Ola Mae Lincoln, Wilma Linville, Geneva Yeager, Kathryn lright, Willard Mclntosh, Paul O'Riley. Don Barber, Ted Barber, Mar- garet Troxell, Beverly Masters, Katherine Cottrell, and Charles Parman came during the year to make us the largest class in school, the total enrollment being thirty-three. Miss Lewis, our sponsor, left during the year, and her place was taken by Mr. Gunderman. Hr. Gunderman was our sponsor during our sophomore year. Josephine Thurston and Frances Taylor joined our class, but Harold-Reynolds and Ola Mae Lincoln were not back. Margaret Troxell left soon after school began. During the summer before our junior year, Jessie Lou Newton became Mrs. Fred Diggs, Josephine Thurston moved to Nebraska, Katherine Cottrell went to Rosendale, and Frances Taylor decided she had had enough school work. Thousands of things happened during this year. Kathryn Wri,ht was our president. Mrs. Van Hoozer and Mr. Tomp- kins were our sponsors. We had an operetta, directed by Mr. Tompkins, in which Guila Fletchall was the only junior who had a leading part. we sold candy bars and had a Junior-Night Club to finance the Junior-Senior Night Club we had the first school as we had making final preparations Decorations, theme, color scheme, when toghave it,and many other-things Banquet. At the dance. Such fun for our banquet, toasts, where and kept us all busy and happy for days. The theme finally turned out to be 'The Pot of Gold.n The height of our glory came when Irene Dolph, our representative for the queen of the Invitation Basketball Tournament, was crowned. To finish this year's activity, we decorated for the baccalaureate services and commencement exer- cises. Amidst all our fun during this year, we were sorry to lose Willard Mclntosh and Maxine Messher who moved away. we were glad to have Genevieve Garrison, Dorthy Veatch, and Barbara Dearmont join our class at the beginning of our junior year. At last we became what we had always wanted to be ever since we can remember---SENIORS OF TH GOOD OLD S. H. S. we were disappointed the very first day to find that Darold Yates and fleta Hord weren't with us, but we were consoled somewhat to see that Katherine Cottrell had returned. To our surprise Dorothy Horn had become Mrs. Delavan Patterson during the summer monthsg but she still thou,At we were nice enough that she wanted to finish school with us. With Miss Hash and Mr. Haun as sponsors, wc started off on the final mile. Miss Hash directed our senior play, uMistakes at the Blakes'.' Again our candidate for the queen of the Invitation Basketball Tournament won. we were all gen- uinely thrilled when Helen Godsey was crowned. Our rings, colors, motto, pictures, senior trip, announce- caps and gowns, and last, but not were all calls for excitement and history of our twelve milestones. ments and name cards, least, this yearbook, debates.
