READINGS On March 7, Kathryn Wright received a rating of II Wiul I the humorous reading nTipping off Teachern at the Tarkio Speech and Music Festival. Warbara Dearmont also entered l fx n i with the dramatic reading Uhidnapped,U but was not rated. On April 2, Kathryn Uright entered the Nodaway County Contest with the same humorous reading, and received a rating of I. , . . d a y a S, on-,Trove ' , r 4 Wilma Linville gave the eration HAnd Sudden Death,U by J. C. Furnas in the county contest and received a I. Kathryn Wright prepared an original eration which she T gave at the Maryville Festival, April 19. MARYVILLE CONTEST RATINGS The Skidmore High School mas represented at the Spring y Festival at Maryville, April l9, by four entries. Kath4 l ryn Wright, in Prose Reading, received a rating of Vg y Roger Lee Barrett, in Poetry Reading, received a rating of IIQ Kathryn Wright in 'Original Oration, received a rating of I5 and the play, The Proposal, received a rat- ing of II in the Une-act Play Contest. DEVATE J The debate question this year was, Resolved: That the Powers of the Federal Government Be Increased. Vivian Wilson and Mary Ann McClurg debated the affirmative and Wilma Linville and Kathryn Wright, ,f'., the negative. The teams did not enter the county tournament. SPEECH LETTERS Several people have earned almost enough points to re- ceive a speech letter for this year and by the ond of school will have made public appearances sufficient to comply with the requirements. At the close of the 1959- I 40 school year,speech letters were given to Guila Fletchf all, Wilma Linville, Barbara Doarmont, Paul Fletchall, Kathryn Wright, and Joe Littler. State Proficiency Speech certificates were earned by the above named pupils, and H also by Donald Bassett. S
