tunn Back the hanos of tum Although xt was several years ago, most of us st1ll remember uf only sltghtlyj the day rn September 1942, when we f1rst entered school It was a rather fearful day for some but for all tt was excmng and lmportant Under the gutdance of so capable and be loved a teacher as Mrs Sheppard we were dest1ned for success 1n our school career We have gamed many new frrends and lost many of our or1g1na1 class mates 1n our journey through school but we are essenually the same class The next September hav1ng completed kmder garten and bemg full of conftdence, we set out for f1rst grade and new worlds to conquer W1th the help of Mxss McLaughlm we were lntroduced to the antxcs of D1ck Jane and Baby Sally Our adventure m llterature had begunl Mrs Salrsbury Mrss Hunter, M1ss Stevens and th1rd fourth and flfth grades There were tlmes when our behavtor drove these k1nd and understandmg teachers to dlstracuon but 1n our memorles they w11l hold an honored spot There are no words to express the sadness felt by each one of us at the passmg of Mrs Burke tlus year The days we spent 1n her class w11l rematn as some of the happxest we have ever spent We shall never forget, among other thmgs, the wonder ful stones she read to us each morn1ng and the rnterest she took 1n each one of us Our tr1p upstatrs' seemed to us hke an event tn htstoryl As seventh graders we were easlly re cogtuzed by the a1r of utter confusion that surrounded us In e1ghth grade we had our f1rst expenence w1th Regents ' Not knowtng any better we were not at all perturbed and passed them w1th flyxng colors In the mnth grade, w1th Mrs Waterman and Mr Gless as adv1sors, we chose an able leader m Sam Stenger for presldent We went over the top rn magazme sales and enjoyed our Chr1stmas party and our banquet at the Country Club Even the traglc f1re that leveled our school bu1ld1ng that year d1d not dampen our enthusrasm for semor hxgh school It seemed hke onlyashort t1me unt1lJ une and we were graduaung from jumor hlgh w1th due pomp and cere mony ln our Sophomore year we wlsely chose Rodney Rrchards as Presldent Wtth the gundanoe of our adv1sors Coach Hyatt and Mxss Roos we staged the annual Sophomore Crrcus and Dance called Aprxl Showers. In sptte of the 11l'1'llI3I10HS of the Grange Hall, tt was a tremendous success. 23 Our Jumor year w1th Rodney Rxchards agam at the helm was marked chlefly by our J un1or Prom Moonlight Sonata ' w1th Sandra Pltman as quwn and the selectlon of our class rxngs The unt1r1ng effort of Mlss Speno and Mtss Rowland made both these ventures turn out exoepuonally well ln May the two partles ln the Student Counc1l elecuons West s Warr1ors and Sam s Sa1lors, conducted ener get1c campa1gns w1th Rex West emerg1ng asPres1dent of the Student Counc1l At last we have now become semors the cul rnmatron of twelve years schoohng Class Presldent Dave Foster led us through paper dr1ves Con whtch we worked SO hardj bake sales, a magazme cam paxgn and the greatest play ever The Ltttle Dog Laughed Some of us are gotng on to college or bus1ness school others w1ll be seekmg Jobs But none of us wherever we may be 1n future years w11l and classmates our struggles w1th Lat1n verbs chemxstry labs and geometry proposmons and our many extracurr1cular RCIIVIIIBS w11l long be rernem bered As Baccalaureate graduauon, and our class trxp draw near we reahze how much Skaneateles Central School has meant to us For us the fmale I I 7 7 I l ' - 1 . n ' Miss Hahn guided us along the way through second, forget the experiences we have shared.
