All the ingredients of a Walt Disney script were present - intense inter- school rivalry, the league title at stake, both teams unde- feated in league play, comparable offenses and defenses on paper, a lengthy winning streak on the line, and a beautiful night for football, crisp and clear. Happily for WEED, the script writer cast the Cougars as the good guys! ! Then, for the first time, a chance at the North Section Double A CSmall Schoolsb title. A win in the semis, downing Chester 22-6 , but losing to Sutter 29-14 in the title match. The students and coaches of Fort Jones High sponsored a basketball marathon that began on November 7, 1974 finally ended 65 hours later on November 10, 1974. The purpose of the marathon was to raise enough money to both a weight machine and new football helmets. This purpose was achieved as the players secured and collected S2350.00. When the students, coaches, or scorekeepers were not involved with basketball, they remained busy as tured above.
