sf , At 7,600 feet in January. Along Everitt Memorial Highway. gh ws. '5'5L..i-ask? 'f FZ ' Mount Shasta Ski Bowl The Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl area is located on the southern slope of Mt. Shasta, and is approximately two miles long and one mile wide. The prospectus calls for the construction of a double chair lift begin- ning at an elevation of approximately 7,850 feet with a vertical rise of l,776 feet to a natural bench on the mountain and an upper lift with a closed gondola to an elevation of approximately ll,05O feet. In addi- tion to the lifts, the following is a general description of the proposed development. No overnight lodging except for employees is con- templated because of the ready accessibility to facili- ties of all types in the area along Highways 99, 97 and 89. A lodge and vista houses will be constructed at the timber line, where meals will be served. There will also be a ski repair and rental shop at this point. The lodge will afford a complete view of the ski- ing area and Mt. Shasta peak on the north and east and a wide vista of the Cascades and Coast ranges and upper Sacramento Canyon to the south and west. Sheltered by Shastarama point, at the upper end of the aerial tramway at ll,050 feet above sea level, there will be a vista house. From Shastarama point at li,i27 feet there is a 252 degree unobstructed view of Shasta-Cascade Wonderland, limited only by the capacity of the eye to see, and the normal curvature of the earth. The lower remnant of famed Konwakiton Glacier, one of Mt. Shasta's five living glaciers, is a short walk from the Vista House. A parking area for from 300 to 600 cars is being provided. Application has already been made to the Public Utilities Commission by private individuals, for a passenger bus franchise from Dunsmuir and Mt. Shasta City to the Bowl. For winter sports the overall development will ultimately provide one or more ski tows, toboggan slides, a bob-sled run and an ice skating rink, in ad- dition to the main ski lifts. Further facilities for summer recreation will consist of campgrounds for family units and trailer camps. Scenic trails will be laid out for the enioyment of the summer visitor. The Grand Opening will be held on September l, 1958. At this time the construction of the first lift and the lodge will be completed,
