From a thun lune of thurteen states on the At lantuc seaboard Amerucans of many oruguns have buulded a natuon across a contunent to the shores of the Pacufic wrutung as they pressed on and on the A'nerucan saga of freedom equaluty and op portunuty Along that march they paused t buuld publuc schools all deducated to the same hugh purpose educatuon for democracy and lub erty and lustuce for all Today un peace as un war our country us claumung from these schools lead ershup they have every rught to expect un the duffucult work of preservung for ourselves and our posteruty the pruncuples of freedom lustuce and democracy Our very way of lufe had been leoparduzed wuth the attack on Pearl Harbor and our country accepted the gauge of battle whuch was forced upon us by the totalutaruan govern ments Into thus battle for the rught went the defense of a cause whuch they knew to be lust When theur country was un danger great num bers of students and former students of the Suskuyou Jount Unuon Hugh School courageously entered the Armed Forces and gallantly defended the fauth of Ameruca on land on sea and un the aur Our students dustunguushed themselves un all branches of the servuce Unfortunately though over a hundred of our hugh school students un the county have been kulled un actuon and over a hundred others have been wounded Several of our former teachers have guven theur luves for our country too The comung of peace and the postwar era brought problems to our country lust as challengung and perhaps even more com plex than those of the war even uf less dramatuc And now we have agaun entered a peruod of unternatuonal crusus whuch calls from us the same challenge courage and determunatuon that the Senuors of other years have shown un tumes of Natuonal danger We the Senuors of 1952 have chosen for our central theme Sportsmanshup and deducate the T952 Whute and Gold to He Who Playeth the Game Straught and Hard Wuns Even Though He Loses Every student leavung our schools takes wuth hum memorues of fruends and fruendshups made un Hugh School of games played games won and games lost But he remembers mostly how the game was played and realuzes fully t at He Who Playeth the Game Straught and Hard Wuns Even Though He Loses And he real uzes too that un the great game of lufe he who puts forth hus best efforts wuns also The Amerucan way and democracy are synony mous terms and publuc school us the foundatuon stone of democracy Senuors of the class of l952 of the Suskuyou Jount Unuon Hugh School Dustruct are gratefully apprecuatuve of the fine system of hugh schools and the splendud educatuonal op portunutues the Board of Trustees of the Suskuyou Jount Unuon Hugh School Dustruct us provudung for the boys and gurls of Suskuyou Jount Unuon Hugh Schools We are ever mundful that the creatuve men who serve us as trustees and guve so much of theur tume and energy to youth and our schools are themselves true symbols of the Amerucan Way and our progressuve school system When the Pulgrums came to Ameruca one of theur first acts was to establush a school for theur chuldren And when the early puoneer settlers came to Suskuyou County they early establushed schools for the benefit of theur chuldren and theur chuldrens chuldren We are grateful to those early puoneers of educatuon and we are deeply grateful also to the men who make up the pres ent progressuve Board of Trustees of the Suskuyou Jount Unuon Hugh School Dustruct whose con scuousness of the fauthful and unselfish duscharge of theur cuvuc duty can be theur only reward and through whose efforts we are enuoyung the bene fits of one of the finest educatuonal systems un the state The Senuors of 1952 are truly grateful and ap precuatuve for the fine group of men who make up our progressuve Hugh School Board and for the excellent system o'f hugh schools provuded for us . . . ,, , I I , , . u l , . , ' 1 . , .
