Today. in peace as in war. our counTry is claiming Trom These schools leadership They have every righT To expecT in The diTTiculT work oT preserving Tor ourselves and our posTeriTy. The principles oT Treedom, iusTice and democracy. Our very way oT liTe had been ieopardized wiTh The aTTack on Pearl Harbor and our counTry accepTed The gauge oT baTTle which was Torced upon us by The ToTaliTarian governmenTs. lnTo This baTTle Tor The righT wenT The mighT and Torce oT a Tree people TighTing in deTense oT a cause which They know To be iusT. When Their counTry was in danger, greaT numbers oT sTudenTs and 'Former sTudenTs oT The Siskiyou JoinT Union High School courageously enTered The Armed Forces and gallanTly deTended The TaiTh oT America, on land-on sea-and in The air. Our sTudenTs disTinguished Themselves in all branches oT The service. UnTorTunaTely, Though. over a hundred oT our high school sTudenTs in The counTy have been killed in acTion, and over a hundred oThers have been wounded. Several oT our Tormer Teachers have given Their lives Tor our counTry. Too. The coming oT peace and The posTwar era have broughT problems To our counTry iusT as challenging and perhaps even more com- plex Than Those oT The war. even if less dramaTic. We, The Seniors oT l95O, have chosen Tor our cen+raI Theme Memories, The l95O WHITE AND GOLD is noT dedicaTed To anyone-raTher iT is a collecTion oT memories. Every sTudenT leaving our schools Takes wiTh him memories oT Triends-Teachers, sTu- denTs, Triendly corridors-To keep wiTh him always. They are The l95O WhiTe and Gold. As sTudenTs and ciTizens The Two main goals we should keep beTore us are: FirsT. To win and secure The peace. and second. To preserve our American way oT liTe, which is based on our DemocraTic American sysTem oT Tree enTerprise and privaTe iniTiaTive. The American way and democracy are synonymous Terms and The public school is The ToundaTion sTone oT democracy.
