Siskiyou Joint Union High School District From a thrn line ot thirteen states on the Atlanttc seaboard Americans ot many origins have buulded a nation across a continent to the shores ot the Pacatuc wrtttng as they pressed on and on the American saga ot treedom equality and opportunity Along that march they paused to build public schools all dedicated to the same hugh purpose education tor democracy Today in their hour ot need the people are claiming trom these schools the leadership they have every right to expect an the dnttncult work ot revaluatung our inheritance and re establishing a nation s selt contudence The Seniors ot the class ot l94l have theretore chosen United We Stand as the central theme tor the I94I White and Gold and have respecttully dedicated this Issue ot the White and Gold to American Detense The American Way and Democracy are synonymous terms and the American Public School is the toundatuon stone ot Democracy The sensors ot the class ot l94l ot the Siskiyou Joint Union Hugh School Dnstruct are gratetully appreciative ot the tune system ot high schools and the splendid educational opportunities the Board ot Trustees ot the Siskiyou Jo1ntUnuon l-hgh School District is providing tor the boys and gurls ot the Suskt you Joint Union High Schools We are ever mlndtul that the creative men who serve us as Trustees and give so much ot their time and energy to youth and our schools are themselves true symbols ot the American Way and our progressive school system When the Pnlgr ms a to America one ot their tnrst acts was to establish a sfhool tor their children And when the early pioneer settlers came to Siskiyou County thev early established schools tor the benetut of their children and their children s chnldre We are gratetul to those early Pioneers ot Education and we are deeply gratetul also t the men who make up the present progressive Board ot Trustees ot the Siskiyou Joint Union Hugh School District whose consciousness ot the tanthtul and unseltnsh discharge ot their civic duty can be their only reward and through whose ettcrts we are enloytng the benetnts ot one ot the tnnest educational systems in the State The turst event In the history ot the Siskiyou Joint Union High Sclrool District was the formation ot the Siskiyou County l-hgh School at Yreka an I893 which included a greater part ot the territory nn Siskiyou County The Siskiyou County t-t gh School later became the Siskiyou Unuon High School but tor about twenty years the hugh school at Yreka remained the only one In the District Then due to an Increasing need tor hugh schools and the toresught ot those who served the District as Trustees provisions were made tor the establishment ot tlve additional hugh schools wsthtn the District which were situated at Dorrus Fort Jones Weed Mt Shasta and McCloud Subsequently three additional high schools were added to the lust at t-tapoy Camo Tennant and Tulelake making nine hgh schools in all w thin a single d strict w th a unutled plan ot adm nustration and one admtntstratxve head ln l94D the Carr Elementary D struct ot Modoc County was admit ted to the Siskiyou Union thus reatrng th Siskiyou Jofnt Un r t-hgh School District The district as abov stated s made Jo ot n ne h gh chools w ha tea htng statt ot 75 teachers and an nrollment ot more than I SOO stuo rts The S sktyou Jomnt Union l-hgh Sc ool Dstr ct rs sa d to be the largest sc ool dtst ct n land ar a n Calutornla e Ser ers ot l94l are ruly g ate l nd aoor ctatnve tor he tne oro C o rn n who make uo our progressive l-hgh School Boa o a o tor the ex l Va em ot hgh school ov o dt r us . . , . . . zucme. . . . .. , . , , l . .
