She would spend all her allowance on Judy Ann and see ThaT she goT To The prom! WhaT she didn'T know was ThaT Judy had Too much pride To accepT her piTy or money. This was The diTTiculTy ThaT Taced her The Tollowing day. Approaching Judy, Eleanore smiled in ThaT lazy Triendly old way she had oT geTTing peope To give in To her charm. WiThouT a wasTe oT Time she laid her plans To Judy, who wouldn'T hear oT iT. Tears sprang To her eyes as she realized ThaT There was acTually someone who cared abouT her -she, Judy Ann! Please. Judy Ann l've always wanTed To do someThing grand To help someone and l wanT iT To be you. lT wasn'T easy To convince Judy To leT her carry on her plans, buT aTTer coaxing Tor several hours, she Tinally gave in. The hours spenT TogeTher looking Tor The whiTe neT Tormal and The silver sTrapless sandals. All This was happiness never known before To Judy. Then The nighT oT The prom! Judy Ann was very lovely in The graceTul georgeTTe. l-ler long glossy black hair was seT in a loosely curled halo on her head. She was a beauTiTul sighT as she sTood There as sTarry eyed as a young child happy aT having seen his TirsT moving picTure. One Thing saddened her ThoughTs. She did noT wanT To go along wiTh Eleanore and her escorT. She didn'T wanT To be The Third parTy! BuT To Judy, who was a Tiny Treckled Tace girl, her high school days unlike oTher girls' were unhappy. To her classmaTes Judy was iusT The girl on EasT l4Th . ThaT is, all buT Eleanore Malone-who, alThough well-To-do, sympaThized wiTh Judy. She was The only real Triend Judy had, buT she didn'T wanT Eleanore's sympaThy. Eleanore was The only girl in The more sTylish seT ThaT realized The hardships in Judy's liTe. She did noT Think iT Tair ThaT her Triends should TreaT Judy The way They were accusTomed To. To her classmaTes, Judy was known as The widow's daughTer. They did noT know ThaT her moTher Took in laundry as a means Tor supporT Tor herselT and her Two daughTers. Unknown To Them was The TacT ThaT beneaTh her unrouged lips was a very aTTracTive smile which revealed even, whiTe, square cuT TeeTh and a deep dimple in her righT cheek. Judy, leaving The building, passed a group oT girls discussing The prom, and, oT course, PaT. AlThough deep in ThoughT she heard her name menTioned. Maybe PaT will Take Judy Ann To The dance, mocked one girl. The girls all laughed aT ThaT and Judy, lips quivering, Turned wiTh a smofhered sob Toward home. UnnoTiced by Judy, Eleanore was behind her and had heard The remark. The caTs, she cried. BuT l'll help Judy Ann, we'll show Them! ThaT nighT a hearTbroken, saddened Judy cried herselT To sleep.
