When The Pilgrims came To America one oT Their TirsT acTs was To esTalolish a school Tor Their children. And when The early pioneer seTTlers came To Siskiyou CounTy They early esTalolished schools Tor The beneTiT oT Their children and Their children's children. We are graTeTul To Those early Pioneers oT EducaTion, and we are deeply graTeTul also To The men who make up The presenT progressive Board oT TrusTees oT The Siskiyou Union l-ligh School DisTricT, whose consciousness oT The TaiTlnTul and unselTish discharge OT Their civic duTy can loe Their only reward. and Through whose eTTorTs, we are enjoying The loeneTiTs oT one oT The TinesT educaTional sysTems in The STaTe. The TirsT evenT in The hisTory oT The Siskiyou Union l-ligh School DisTricT was The TormaTion oT The Siskiyou CounTy T-ligh School aT Yreka in I893. The Siskiyou Union T-ligh School Took in almosT all The TerriTory in Siskiyou CounTy buT Tor abouT TwenTy years The High School aT Yreka remained The only one in The DisTricT. Then, due To an increasing need Tor high schools and The ToresighT oT men who served The DisTricT as TrusTees, provisions were made Tor The esTablishmenT oT Tive addiTional high schools wiThin The DisTricT, which were siTuaTed aT Dorris, ForT Jones, Weed, MounT ShasTa, and McCloud. SubseguenTly Three addiTional high schools were added To The lisT, aT l-lappy Camp, TennanT, and Tule Lake, making nine schools in all wiThin a single disTricT wiTh a uniTied plan oT adminisTraTion and one adminisTraTion head. The disTricT, as above sTaTed, is made up OT nine high schools wiTh a Teaching sTaTT OT sixTy-eighT Teachers and an average daily aTTendance oT more Than eleven hundred sTudenTs. The Siskiyou Union l-ligh School DisTricT is said To be The largesT school disTricT in land area in CaliTornia. The seniors of The Class oT I937 are Truly graTeTul and appreciaTive Tor The Tine group of men who make up our progressive l-ligh School Board, and Tor The excellenT sysTem oT high schools provided Tor us. 29a
