This year, congratulations go to Matthew Littlewood and David Pick who won the prize for being the second best delegation of the conference. SCIENCE FAIR Students in the Science Fair Club were encouraged to participate in the Calgary Regional Competition held every spring. The competition was fun and students obtained practical experience, were exposed to new ideas, and learned effective com- munication techniques. This year, the Top Senior Award went to Ted Becker, the A.T.A. Award to Semi Chellas, and the Third Place Ribbon to Joanna Wong. Ted Becker also won the chance to represent S.W.C. at the Canada-wide Science Fair in Cornwall, Ontario. 1., Q? lm , N SPANISH TRAVEL The Spanish Travel Club held meetings every Monday and Tuesday during the noon hour. Some students worked on in- dividual projects which varied from paintings to batiks to sculptures. The 1984-85 school year was different compared to previous years. A car wash one Saturday involved cold weather, warm water and frozen fingers. We also wore out our shoes in the many money-making activities fthere seems to be too many oranges in this world!!J, but the end result was a week away from school on a band trip in Ottawa. I enjoyed being a member of our school's stage band that has gone to regional and national competitions. In closing, I would like to say good-bye to the entire band and to wish Mrs. Farrell luck in next year's bands. - Dale Szulikowski N ff K HORAL GRAD CHORAL ENSEMBLE FRONT: Michelle Chanin SECOND ROW: Shauna Soukorefji Sharon Roy, Sandra Franklin BACK: Nikki Lunalmark, Laurie Jacobs, Kelly Olson, Kathy Zwack, Janice Christensen MISSING: Pamela Olleren- shaw, Michelle Pilkington, Lisa Kennedy gm? Overall, there was a greater number of tens, increasing the entire size of the Drama Group. For this group, things like last minute scenes CSneak Previewsj, forgotten lines fAn Evening with Shakespearej, cast parties, Annie Get your Gun,', the spring musical, and a production written and directed by a student were prominent events of the year. The restructuring of Sneak Previews was also an important change ftoo bad the audience couldnit have been more structuredl. Generally, Theatre Churchillu was a place where aspiring stars got together and shared their talents. It was also a place of learning - learning about drama, learning about people, and learning about life. More importantly, it was a place full of good times. tj An important event for the Drama Dept this year was the school production of Annie Get Your Gunf, Involving close to 200 staff members and students, the musical ran from May 27-30. The plot of this musical concerned the fabulous career of sharpshooter Annie Oakley QPam Ollerenshawj and her love for Frank Butler tEwan McLarenJ. The action took us from the outskirts of Calgary all the way to the eastern coast of the U,S., where, after great difficulty, Annie finally got her man. Annie Get Your Gun was very suc- cessful during its run. All four show dates were characterized by full audiences who were extremely impressed and appreciative of the talents and efforts of everyone in- volved. WSWS' ff' Lg 1 KAN Q56 r L It gives me great pleasure to address you as co-editor of Memories '85, This year was, in many ways, a difficult one for me, and yearbook helped me channel my energies and frustrations into something worthwhile. I know I will always treasure this book Ceven though I had hand cramps from doing layoutsj because it holds so many special friends and memories within it. I hope that this yearbook is as meaningful to you -- now and in the future. Special thanks must be extended to each of my photographers, whom I probably drove mad with all those assignments, and Jamie Dee Larkam, my co-editor and friend. To everyone -- teachers and students -- I hope that life treats you kindly and that all your dreams come true. Sincerely, Lynn Leong Cphoto-editorl yffwfrrf The first thing any person does when they receive their yearbook is to look for their picture and then those of their friends. A quick glance at the candid photos of the year follows, and then a frantic race to get the signatures of those special people begins. After this ritual is over and done with and the comments have been read, the yearbook is carelessly placed on a cluttered shelf or under dirty clothes in the bottom of the closet. As the years pass by and the book gathers dust, the cover remains closed and the memories recorded inside. One nostalgic day, the old high school yearbook will surface. On that day, the pages will slowly be turned, the photos intently studied, the messages deeply read and memories of those carefree days of high school will return. Some of these memories will bring sorrow, some will bring joy, but assuredly, a trip back to SWC For these reasons Memories 85 was painstakingly created I hope that each of you will find something extra special about it My thanks to all those who helped with this yearbook it couldnt have happened without you May you succeed at all that you attempt Au revoir mes amis for we will meet again someday Jamie Dee Larkam flayout edltorl .Mafia 41 5 1 5 I 3 1 Z i fi5gX-if f f-' Published by Wir K Jostens!National School Services Ltd.
