Each day is hour after hour, Each hour but one minute. Passing after another one, That I may revel in it. The beauty in a single rose Is ample for my eyes. The anthem ofone robin Can fill with awe surprise. One dewdrop is jewel enough To please the most discerning, One frost-laced twig is artistry To span the season 's turning. I do not askfor days or hours. . . But only that each minute I see the proffered beauty, and Share myjoy in it. Lisa Kennedy Grade 11 SKIING The icy wind sneaks through my jacket Istumble to the chair frozen limbs and long lines hours pass by it seems On the chair I look down envious of skiers passing by a hundred times faster the top is miles away the chair slowly creaks on Now I can teven talk my body is numb the mountain wind is neverending Is this really worth the time and money? the view is beautQ'ul but time stands still At last I reach my destination My body warms and my heart races The snow is deep and soft My skis glide easily gaining speed I start to smile I glance up at the chairljt and laugh Debbie Main QQ .? mf I I Ig, K I . . fx I A , Ay FOR WHONI THE BELL TOLLS Perchance he for whom this school bell tolls, may be so ill, that he may be unable to see his physical state, and he will henceforth rush from these chambers of learning, these hallowed halls, and proceed to light with obvious relish fwhich action deserves only my most profound pityj that weapon of death, commonly referred to as the cigarette. What vile manner of pleasure is this that causes the very air in my throat to stick like my Grandmother's porridgeg the very cherished blue of the heaven 's to become clogged and sluggish like an inclustrial dawn? The effect would be the same to locate 0neseU' in the centerofa burning room and inhale deeply the smoke! The rotted teeth, the yellowing fingers, the hoarse choke for a laughg all these are the results seemingly so desperately desired that, for them, one is willing to suck on a burning stick. A moment of pleasure today, a lifetime of suffering later. That noble institution, the school, which is dedicated to the education and in- struction of eager minds, is subjected to and defaced by smoldering butts scattered near her sacred walls. It tears at my heart to be a witness to this sacrilege. Man hath af- fliction enough without the begging of misery from the student outside the door, who insists on blowing smoke unto the countenance of those who pass by. Nay, silence is not golden, clean air is. In contemplation, my fellow student, I must advise, do not bend thine ear in anticipation of that school bell, even though it means time for a beloved cigarette, rather, heed it well, for it may toll for thee in more ways than one. Becky Stewart JUSTLIKE YOU Looking back at the first day we met You went to play baseball I carried your bat You said, I like it, 1 said, me too! Wherever you went lfollowedyou. You wore your hat backwards, I did the same You told me to stop it But I couldn't change. To me you were perfect, no one could compare I tried to be like you, Same clothes and same hair. For weeks you ignored me, until yesterday I noticed you glancing, But I turned away. I've managed to find and accept who I am I don't need to copy I'vefound my ownfriends. Today you showed up, used actions like mine I didn 't get mad, I tried to be kind. You'llj7ndyourseM but until you do I won't get mad, Ifyou copy me too.' Kari Norrish

A summer 's pasture at my gate beckons me astray -- to places found in lover 's dreams and easy winter days Sky of liquid dyed blue scenes Follow close upon my mind long dark trains ofempty clouds and simple musical strains. Lots offruit and willow trees followfrom behind dreams. Dreams! Is it too late to surrender to wipe out The misery of years? A relationship between us is important !. s a friendship I often desire But my pride and stubborness prevent me from Striking out and kindling the fre. And now we have created a barrier A wall of Iron and Steel Because neither of us has to the courage To discuss and relate how we feel. You are my father the best that there Yet my heart feels the terrible strain Of the distance that s floated between us Of the unspoken and of hidden pain.
