ARTS 50 ln a century given over to a riot of Technology and Commerce, the B.A. is likely to feel obsolescent. He may, in his undergraduate years, have tried Chem. 101, possibly he has Physics 102, he may even have a credit in Accountancy - but generally speaking, he is more con- versant with matters traditional. History, Languages, Philosophy and Literature have comprised his studies, all of which should give him a long face and a profound stare. Considering the times, it should also give him a furrowed brow. If none of the faces on the next few pages exhibit these particular features, the reason is attributable, we hope, to some further insight and assurance their studies have given them. The B.A. during his years at College has come to see him- self in an historical context. He has perspective now, and looks before and after. If, in the mirror of his thought, he sees reflected aworld where explosion is everywhere imminent, he contemplates it with an assurance that transcends complacency and goes deeper than optimism. If the mirror gives him the violence of his own time and place it also shows him the past. He sees the centuries since Greece, he can follow History across Europe and perceive in the dark grief of human flux where the white names burn and the achievements gleam. Man's hope he sees in Man. In the ongoing of human history he values his place: the past he knows is always dark and the future darker. Believing this and having faith, he strives with good men everywhere to strike a light to take us forward.
