Pe-of fb- Bert Damner Phyllis Jaegeling Nanci Mulloney Martha Hurlbut Fall President Fall Vice-President Fall Secretary Fall Treasurer The Junior Class of 54-55 had many good opportunities to shine. There were iust enough traditions from the past three years to furnish a guide, and still enough leeway left to give the class room for improvisation. The Junior Class rated high in the P. T. A. Sponsored Mardis Gras Capers. A special effort was made, for the class with the highest number of sales chose the queen and king for the variety show. The sales were handled excellently by Louise Oxtoby, the class treasurer. Who can forget the Junior Prom, held, of all nights, on May, Friday the Thirteenth? Under the combined efforts of Bert Damner, fall class president, and Bob D'Alessio, spring class president, the affair, held for the second time at Bermuda Palms, went off smoothly. The other events, the Junior Cake Sale, the Junior-Senior Tug-of-War, and the Junior-Senior picnic, to name a few, came along in rapid fire order. Yes, the Junior Class had a hand in everything right up to graduation, when the junior flower girls performed in the ceremony. The Junior Class had completed a full and active year. Under the leadership of Fall president Bill Snow and Spring president Bill Purcell, the sophomores gave a marvelous spring donce. No detail of the dance was overlooked by the Class of '57 to make it stand out as one of the best dances in Drake's history. Tripping the light fantastic, however, was nothing new to the sophomores. On alternate Saturday nights many could be seen at the dancing classes sponsored by the P.T.A. The spirit of the upperclassmen-to-be was demonstrated by their large turnout at all the games and other school functions. The numerous clubs and committess at Drake teemed with energetic sophomores reody to help the school in any way they could. They start- ed off with a bang by winning the P.T.A. membership drive and receiving the annual party given for the class recruiting the most members for that organization. One of the reasons for so much frosh spirit was the column the freshmen started which was FOR freshmen, ABOUT freshmen, and BY freshmen . Out of This World, which was one of the best dances of the year, was given for the members of the student body by the freshmen. The cle- corations were symbolic of outer space and were considered excellent by the upper classmen. Everyone agreed that Mr. Wigell's dance band was at its best. Included in the activities of the freshman class were the freshman dance classes given by the P.T.A. which were held on Saturday night, starting in January. The spirit of the freshmen made the year of 1955 the best for everyone. The Sock Hop, given by the hep sophomore class, started the year off with a bang, while on Halloween Drakites shimmied at the Witches Wiggle. Half a cent per pound was the admission price of the Letterman dance, Weigh-in-BIues. Mistletoe Magic, sponsor- ed by the Friendship Club, was a turn-about dance held in Decem- ber. The new year started off right with DANCEI , the I. R. C. Dance held at Marin Catholic. Rod Levin and his committee worked incessantly to make all Drake's wonderful dances successful. Money earned from selling Student Body Cards, magazine subscriptions and tickets and programs at home football and basketball games are the main sources of the schofol's income. Under the able guidance of the fall Student Body Treasurer, Sue Spalding, the treasury continued to grow. Give 'em the ax! A sinister thought isn't it? But thanks to the Interschool Relations Committee whose iob it is to promote better relations among Marin County high schools, this cry is heard only at games and athletic events. lnstituted about seven years ago by Tamalpais and San Rafael high schools, this c-ommittee sponsors a dance each semester. During the spring semester, the Finance Committee, headed by Nancy Simons, student body treasurer, in addition to drawing up the budget for next year, passed club and committee requisitions. The Spring Carnival was being planned while the group helped produce the Variety Show. The handling of student body finances was deftly polished off by this energetic and spirited committee. The lnterschool Relations Committee, which is composed of the student body officers and class presidents, continued in the spring its fine work of bettering school relations. Applause resounds throughout the gym in acknowledgment of a well performed program. This fall Drake gave a number ot outstanding assemblies resulting from the work of the Program Committee under the leadership of laddie Zumwalt. The variety show put on by San Francisco State was received with much enthusiasm, as was the Christmas program given by Drake's A Cappella Choir. The juniors' assembly, Music From l900, the first class program of the year, was highly acclaimed by the entire student body. Those posters plastered on the walls around the campus advertising games, dances, and other school activities are provided by the hardworking Publicity Committee. Under Sally McHenry in the fall, the group turned out beautiful posters by the peck, as well as artistic banners telling of Drake's football victories. The Spring Program Committee, under Dick Cady, helped to plan the programs given by the freshman, sophomore, and iuni-or classes. The College of Pacific orchestra presented an enter- taining musical program later in the spring. School talent was discovered, or rather uncovered, in various other presentations. The climax to a year of some great entertainment was the Senior Farewell, a side-splitting end to a successful year. S-L-U-R-P goes the paint brush as it smooches over a length of butcher paper in the process of becoming a dance poster. The Spring Publicity Committee, headed by Wayne Rubin, was composed of a member of each school organization, as well as the usual sign-ups, so that all the clubs could benefit from the committee's work. Newspaper and radio advertisement was offered in addition to poster publicity. Extensive work was put in on the Variety Show and the many school dances. P-osters by the talented group broke up the monotony of blank gray cement walls as well as ad- vertising coming attractions. This year marked the first anniversary of the Public Relations Committee, which was formed in order to improve Drake's relations with the immediate neighborhood. Headed by Dave Allen in the fall, the committee had several cleanup drives after school to rid the surrounding streets of carelessly dropped lunch bags and garbage. The tracking down of neighbors' complaints is another job of this diligent committee. With the coming of spring, Laddie Zumwalt took over the reins of the Public Relations Com' mittee. Neighbors' complaints were virtually stifled after the installation of trash cans in strategic spots along Saunders Avenue. Students who are prone to walk about during lunch hour put their papers in the cans instead of festooning the landscape with them. This committee was one of the most vital and carried out its work carefully and efficiently.
