CLASS PROPHECY In the spring of I975 I was a nurse an the ship Good Fortune when it took its sprung vacation crowd to Hawaii, I was especially thrilled to fund many of my old classmates of S2 aboard This was my first tour of duty with the Good Fortune I was uust cornung aboard when I heard someone soy Why Darlene De Jager whoever expected to fund you as the new nurse on my ship? I turned around to fund Captaun Stanley Lammers who us un charge of the voyage He saud You have probably notuced that our ship us one of the more modem ships of today You might be interested to know that one of our old classmates Stanley Hoekstra designed the ship You pr0b0I9IY fe member that un classes he was usually drawing cars and ships instead of paying attention o what was beung said Then Stanley took me to the staterooms and I notuced that a beautiful rob of decorating had been done so I asked Stanley who had done the lab Well h said there were two persons responsible for it Lloyd Brommer who painted the staterooms and Mrs Bubby Muilenburg formerly Mudge Mouw decorated the rooms but she has arven up interior decorating because she devotes all her time to her husband and family I then started to look arouna to see if I knew any of the passengers aboard Sure enough there was Jamce Vermeer I went up to her and asked her what she was doing aboard she told me that she was goung to Hawaii to puck up some orphan children for the Vermeer's Orphanage Jan us head matron un the home and also founded ut l asked Jan uf she heard anythung about the airplane crash near Sioux Center Iowa She told me that the pu'ot Ronald Voordeman and the stewardess Berdena Kempers saved all the passengers aboard I then walked to the other end of the deck and who dud I see but Ruth Van Velzen another old classmate As I walked up to her I notuced that she was wearing such a stunning dress so I asked her where she purchased ut She told me that Betty Vant Hof famous dress desugner had designed it especially for her During the course of our conversation Ruth told me that she was reading a very good love story Love Me or Leave Me the author beung Mary Lou Vander Meer who also us the author of the book Ten Lessons un Love After walking around a but I went dawn to dinner Stanley told me that he had hired a superb cook who was Gilbert De Goeu He had studied cooking un France and knew many new dishes Seated on my rught was Marlene Lubbers she told me that she had un the United States My how proud she looked when she saud that She also told me that Leone Berkenpas us the waitress on the ship Leone had resigned at Joe s Lunch and Stanley employed her on the Good Fortune Stanley who was seated at my left told me that he had purchased his meat from Kenneth McMurray s Super Meat Market whuch is situated un New York While un New York he by chance had met an old friend Donald Groen who had just been giving his brothers children a uoy rude un his l96l Ford After dinner we all retured to the lounge and there a splendid puano team entertained us You might be interested to know that they were some more classmates of ours namely Joyce Schuuteman and Greta Haverhals They are famous pianists who travel all over the world After listening for a while I retured to my room I notuced that my room was equupped wuth a televusuon set I tumed ut on lust in time to listen to the untervuews of the ten top baseball stars of today Among them was Wayne Bruunsma who us the pttcher for the Yankees and is the highest paud player on the team After the untervuews the news highlights of the week came on A flash had lust come in telling about the bug electrical storm un Iowa The Harskamp cattle farm had lost IOUJ cattle due to the storm The owners were Donald Harskamp and Bernard Rozeboom Donald s brother un law Also the purebred horse form lost a number of horses I was surprised to hear that Marilyn and Vuolet Kuyper Wulmina Schuuteman and Emogene Vant Hul were the owners of the farm The announcer saud that it was the buggest horse farm un the United States so they seem to have a very thriving buSun6SS 18 The next morning I rose early and as I was strolling along the deck I notuced two more passengers on the deck who evidently had rusen early also As I walked up to them I was surprised to see Audrey Vande Berg and Joan Pruns l asked them what brought them on deck so early From them l learned that Audrey had been proctuc ing swimming because she planned to swim the English Channel Joan was her manager this year having swum the English Channel herself the year before After our Iuttle chat we all went down to the dining hall and there who did we meet but Roger Den Hefder and Dwoine Muulenberg from whom I learned that they were aboard ship an their way to Japan to teach the Japanese improved methods of farming Soon after I received the morning maul and among ut was on announce ment stating that Mr and Mrs Pete Vonk were the happy parents of triplets Iyou remember Mrs Vonk as the former Donna De Leeuwl I hurrred over to tell Janice when I ran unto Kathleen Clevermga I asked her what she was doing aboard the ship and she told me that she was goung on a trip to Hawaii with her boss Alvin Mos for whom she is secretary Alvin is the president of the Grammar Books Company l thought to myself probably Alvin can throw more books out of the window now Stanley then came and told us that we were nearing land and that we should get our belongings together The ship docked un the harbor a few minutes later As the passengers were coming down the plank I spued a famuluar face and who should ut be but Herlon Vander S haaf offering free puneapples to all the passengers aboard I later learned that he owns about one half of the pineapple farms un Hawaii We then hired a taxi to take us around the Cuty I then saw that the driver was Harold Klein He took us around the city and showed us some interesting parts First he took as to Scott Snellers grass farm so I asked Harold what Scott dud wuth the grass that he grew He told me that it was for grass skirts that the Hula gurls wore Scott not only grew the grass but also trade the skirts for the gurls He then took me to the De Boom Medical Research Center Asl was goung inside I met Betty De Boom the founder of the institution She saud that she was un a hurry because she had just found a cure for the mumps which wull be of a great help to many people Yau.u may remember she had the mumps when she was tn school which was the reason for starting up the institution A few days later we set saul again for New York As I CII!! aboard I notuced ten very ancient looking pianos beung pushed aboard the ship The man who was supervising the whole procedure seerred vaguely famuluar so I decided to investigate As I walked toward htm l recognized hum at once as Monsueur Davud Vander Berg the fatmus puano tuner and collector of antique pianos That evening I met some more of my old classmates Two of them were the famed novelust Arthur De Jang and his secretory Evelyn Lammers Art had been to Hawaii to write a book titled Gravitational Effects of the Midnught Sun an Hawaiian Climate' Evelyn told me ut was a very interesting book and She saud it would be the best seller of the year As l was talking to Art Madene Winterfield came and uouned the conversation She saud she was going back to the States for the first tume un ten years She had been lf! Hawaii all that time teochung Hawauuan gurls to dence the Hula dlruce Next I met Gerald Wussink and his handy man Donald Ter Hoar They had gone to Hawaii to sketch models for Vogue Magazin. Gerald us the designer for Vogue and Donald is the edutor He asked me if I met Howard Schutt on board already Howard had told Gerald that he had gone to Hawauu to see how the men dressed un Hawaii Howard had been named the best dressed man of the year and also us the edutor of Man the latest magazine exclusively for men Thenextdaywedockedun NewYork Aslgotoffthegong plank I saw Mrs Gene Moss formerly Marla Van Roekel I went over to her and she told me she was at the dock to greet her children who had gone to Hawaii for their sprung vacation She sand that die was celebrattng her fifteenth wedding anniversary that mmth. CLASS HISTORY Freshmen class Sophomores class Juniors clags Seniors class In the fall of 48 our train the S C H S began tts four year Journey wtth 59 passengers aboard Some ot the passengers got to take part tn the 9th grade play Rasberry Red. The S CH S also took some of us to Iowa City because our high school basketball team played in the State Tournament Before the first year of our Journey was over Arlene Roze- boom Jacoba Kleene Wxllard Koops Byron Bruxnsma Roland Bartels and Clayton Vreeman left the S CH S Stanley Hoekstra and Robert Vogel both Joined us tn this year We now have entered the Senior Hxgh section of our tram They tn sisted on our walktng around the room and smgmg Praute Flower Later we were to bow to all the upperclassmen we met In thts year the soph omore girls gave a style show Suzanne Shop and many others parttci pated ln the operetta Ptrates of Penzance Then to top xt all ten boys and girls were chosen to be Walters and waxtresses at the .Tumor Sentor banquet Scott Sneller and Robert Feekes Jomed us when we started our soph omore year Robert Vogel Truman Raak and Theodore Vonk left us in this year Those that left the S CH S and dxd not return for our Jumor year were Marvin Ippel Muriel Dxeters and Duane Sandbulte Those that left us during the year were Wilham De Bonte and Harold Van Otterloo In this year our class presented the class play Doctors Orders An other blg event was our Junior Semor Banquet Maypole The Sentors took us to Sheldon for a picnic Our train is at last on tts last year of tts Journey Those that dxdn t re- turn were Norman Bonnema Robert Feekes and Gloria Mouw Wxth the able sponsors Mrs Hammer Mr Jones and Mr Lubach we publtshed The Warrior Agatn this year we presented a class play Other acttvzties were Career Day Slnp Day a lovely Banquet given by the Jumors Class Day Baccalaureate Commencement and class pxcnic Yes, our tratn journey has come to the end but we shall continue for Tonight we launch, wherexshall we anchor.
