DEPARTMENTS AGRICUL TUR E AND INDUSTRIAL ARTS Mr. H.W. Gist and Mr. Dick Lithgow teach Agriculture and Industrial Arts as op- tional subjects to any boys interested. Boys tak- ing 'Ag' are eligible for membership in the F.F.A. chapter. Both are workshop courses as is shown inthe opposite picture of one of Mr. Lithgow's shop classes. COMMERCIAL Typing, Shorth and and Bookkeeping are offered in the Commercial Depart- ment. All are taught by Mr. Claude Shumate. The courses are open to Sopho- mores, Juniors and Seniors. D i s tri c t Typing contes- tants for the 1952 Inter- scholastic League contest were c ho s e n from this group. LANGUAGE ARTS This picture demonstrates one of the many things taught in the Language Arts Department which includes English, Speech, journalism and Spanish. Here one of the students is interviewing a teacher. These subjects are taught by Miss jane Tulloch, Miss Lois Tidwell, Miss Opal jordan and Mrs. Martha Smith.

HISTORY World History, American History and Civics are offered to all high school students and at least two years of history are re- quired. Olin Chafin teaches American History and World History. Civics is taught by Ted Dickerson. HOME ECONOMICS One of the most practical courses offered to girls in SHS is Home Economics t aug h t by Miss Justine Davis. Three years of Homemaking are offered he courses include and t cooking, sewing, budget- ing, interior decorating and room ing among other 8 things. MATHEMATICS S H S offers everything from General Math to 'Trig with plenty of math sub jects in between. Miss Stella Meyer teaches Gen- eral Math, Algebra I and II. Plane Geometry is taught by Murray Stevenson and W.T. Henry teaches trig- onometry to those seniors who are interested.
