This is the invitation sent to us by Dolores Sell, our class secretary, It is a beautiful day in spite of the clouds that threatened early this morning. The lunch for this event was prepared by Dawn Hettinger who has her own television show every aftemoon. She tests recipes and gives them to us over television. The first people to arrive on the scene are Gloria Ritter and Joan Eckenroad. They attended Lebanon Vallev College together. Gloria is now the leader of an All-Girl Band and male chorus. Joan is organist and choir director in a large church in New York City. The next to arrive are Shirley Stoudt, Sara Wenrich, Shirley Harris, and Eileen Krick. Sara and Shirley Harris are both married to successful businessmen. Sara is married to a butcherjand Shirley is married to the owner of the National Cleaners. Eileen and Shirley Stoudt are both private secretaries to wealthy businessmen. We soon see a car drive up, and Allen Barnett and Allen Ernst step out. They are partners in a large business concern in New Jersey, We see they are doing quite well. Following them is Ken- neth Harting, who is in business with his father. While we are standing there chatting, we see a young man coming across the lawn accom- panied by an attractive young woman. As they come closer, we see it is James Lessig, who is now a successful doctor, and Dolores Sell who is his secretary. After a while we see Evelyn McCoy and Jennie McCane walking toward us. We hear Evelyn is an officer in the SPARS and Jennie is married. We see she has brought her two children along with her. We soon see a few fellows hurrying across the lawn to us. It looks like Karl Koehler, Ray- mond Wenrich, and Robert Weidman. Karl, we hear, is doing very well in the field of television. Robert is a sports journalist, and Raymond is serving in the Marines. As we are about to start eating, we see three girls hurrying across the lawn toward us. We recognize them as Elaine Yerger, Mildred Bonte, and Janet Neidig, Could it be they're afraid they'll be late. We remember they used to be late for school-sometimes. Elaine and Janet are now both successful secretaries for big businessmen. Mildred is secretary to an executive of the Bell Telephone Company. They tell us the reason they are late is because they just came from a Secre- tarial Convention. Next we see Marvin Yerger, Marvin Heffner, Albert Oxenreider, and Gerald Stuber coming. Albert is the General Manager of the Bell Telephone Company in Reading, and Jerry is a Sports Editor for the Reading Eagle. Marvin Yerger is a well-known bass horn soloist in the U. S. Navy Band, and Marvin Heffner is a diesel engineer. During the afternoon we decided to go swimming. After we are finished swimming, we hear strains of music coming from the clubhouse. We go up to the clubhouse, When we enter, we see Rodney Ruth and his Orchestra. We see Rodney got his chance in the field of music, for he is now leader of a very famous orchestra. They just made an appearance up at the Hershey Ballroom. We dance the rest of the evening and then decide. regrettfully, that we'd better depart. We resolved to have a reunion in five years instead of ten. 29 the class histur The time has come for the members of the class of '52 to refresh their memories of past school days. Lest we forget, allow me to refresh your minds relative to the most cherished happenings. In our first year of Junior High School, Miss Dorothy DeTurck became our home- room advisor. We began our Seventh Grade with 37 members on our class roll. During the coming years our class membership dropped to the present 25. We elected class oflicers for the first time. They were James Lessig, President, Karl Koehler, Vice President, Joan Noll, Secretary-Treasurer. In Eighth Grade, Mrs. Updegrave, formerly Miss DeTurck, became our advisor. We again elected class officers. They were James Lessig, Presidentg Janet Neidig, Vice Presi- dent, Dolores Sell, Secretary-Treasurerg Janet Manbeck and Robert Weidman, U. S. O. Representatives. Our first social event was a doggie roast held at Egelman's Park on September 11, 1947. During the year our class helped to select a standard school crest for class rings. The last half of the year our advisor was Mr. John Storm. At the close of the school term we elected class officers for the following year. They were Robert Weidman, President, Gloria Ritter, Vice President, Mildred Bonte, Secretary-Treasurer, Joan Eckenroad and James Lessig, U. S. O. Representatives. In our Freshman year we had Mr. Harry Manderbach, a new teacher, as our home- room adviser. We began our Freshman year by selecting our class motto, class color, class flowers. They are Class Motto, What We Are About To Be We Are Now Becom- ing, Class Colors, Blue and Gold, and our Class Flower which was to be the yellow rose. We, also, had a doggie roast on September 21, 1948. We had our first activity, which was a movie called Western Union, held on March 10, 1949. To our surprise it was a success. The biggest event came at the end of our Freshman year, which was our Com- mencement and promotion to the Senior High School. At the close of the term we elect- ed class officers for the Sophomore year. They were James Lessig, Presidentg Robert Weidman, Vice President, Janet Neidig, Secretary-Treasurer, Karl Koehler and Gloria Ritter, U. S. O. Representatives. In our Sophomore year Mr. Manderbach was again our homeroom adviser. This year we had a doggie roast on September 30, 1949, at Egelman's Park. We changed our class flower to the white rose and our class colors to blue and white. We picked chenille letters to wear on sweaters. We had two activities during the year. Our first was a movie called Captain Eddie which was held on December 8, 1949. Our Second activity, a dance, was named The Duck's Wobble, and was held April 15, 1950. At the close of the year we had another doggie roast May 12, 1950, at Egelman's Park. We elected the following officers for the Junior year: Raymond Wenrich, President: Marvin Heffner, Vice Presi- dent, Dolores Sell, Secretary-Treasurer, Mildred Bonte and Allen Barnett, U- S. O. Re- presentatives. Our advisor was again Mr. Manderbach. We started the Junior year by having a doggie roast on September 22, 1950, at the French Creek State Park. Our biggest job this year was selecting our class rings. The first activity we conducted to raise class funds was the selling of Christmas cards. We had a skating party on December 20, 1950, at the Sinking Spring Skatarena. We sponsored a movie on January 18, 1951, called Winged Victory. Other activities in which the entire class participated follow: We went to the Ice Capades, February 12, 1951, at Hershey Sports Arena, and we took two trips-One was a tour in Philadelphia, the other a trip to the United Nations in New York. On March 17, 1951, we had a Saint Patrick's Dance called the Shi1le1agh Shuhlef' We also picked the movie for our Senior years. We had a cake sale on May 12, 1951. At the close of the year we picked the oflicers for our Senior year. They were Robert Weidman, President, Raymond Wenrich, Vice President, DO10I'eS Sell, S6C1'efaI'y-Treasurer? Gloria Ritter and Marvin Heffner, U. S. O. Representatives. Our adviser was Mrs. Maybelle Y. Lambert. During the year we conducted several activities to raise money for our class. We sold a polish called Doozy Does It and Christ- mas cards. This increased our bank account a great deal. We had a- doughnut sale on October 26, 1951, sponsored a band concert by the Wyomissing Band on November 6, 1951, and a cake sale on January 21, 1952. Our biggest job of the year was the '52 Imago throughout the year. Our last social event was a J unior-Senior Semi-formal dance held on April 19, 1952, and will be remembered by everyone. Our Senior year came to an end with the Baccalaureate services in the Reformed Church on May 25, 1952. Class Night was another important activity held on May 20, 1952. The biggest step we took was on May 27, 1952. This, of course, was Commencement. U This means that we have come to the end of all our activities, as a class, and that we will, each, be going out in the world by ourselves. Happy were the days at Sinking Spring High School. the class will We, the Seniors of Sinking Spring High School being as sound in mind and body as can be expected as a result of the schedule so rigidly followed, leave this, our first, last, and only will and Testament.
