' , fu - 'y . Janet Reifsnyder - Asst. Art Editor C2 au Adfory The time has arrived for the Class of '50 to review past tours through school Ve wish to keep the cherished memories in mind Our first six years passed very quickly and then we found ourselves upstairs in Junior Senior High School Our first two homeroom teachers in 7 and 8 were Miss Reichenbach and Miss Fukan. We began our third year of Junior High School by select ing our officers They were Sherwood Reifsnyder, President, John Haughney, Vice President, and Joan Machemer, Secretary. Our adviser this year was Mr Howard Hamlen. We selected our class motto 'Seek Higher Standards' and our class flower the white carnation Before the end of the year we selected our officers for the ensuing year. They were Robert Manheck,Pres ident, Donald Le1by,Vice President and Joan Machemer, Secre tary. The biggest event of this year Junior High Promotional Exercises In our Sophomore year we,aga1n,had Mr Hamlen as our ad viser. We began the year by having our doggie roast at Egle party Due to the moving of Robert Manbeck we were obliged to elect another president and John Haughney was elected as our chief class officer On May 7 we held our first dance called 'Big Top Caper.' This was our best activity held during this year and was a success in every way Our next task was the election of officers for our Junior year. John Haughney was again, elected President, carl Binkley, Vice President, and Audrey Eyrich, Secretary. The first pleasant duty of our Senior year was to select our class rings Acting quickly and with the help of our new adviser, Mrs C Powers,we received them before Thanksgiving. We conducted many social events by ourselves a doggie roast a Chinese mea1,and a spaghetti dinner We sponsored a double feature movie We did quite well by giving two record dances The officers for the Senior year were elected John Haughney was elected Pres1dent,Carl Bink1ey,V1ce Pres1dent,and Gloria Troutman,Secretary. When we began our Senior year we found that our treasury had been boosted through the sale of greeting cards and sta tionery We spent a great amount of t1me,throughout the year on our '50 Imago During our Senior year we held a donut sale and presented our class play nThere Goes The Bride.' We held our Senior Prom on April 29, 1950. Class Night Exercises were held on iay 16 Our Baccalaureate Services were held in the St John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Spring, Pa., on May 21 Our Commencement Exercises were held on May 23, 1950 . - , - man's'Park. We had a movie--'Arabian Nights'--and a skating I 5' , oe.. ' ' 9 ' ' 9 O is -or 6-we if A fm '-vv 't s., i- N! vu--'A JJQ, if Xize ,fic f 546' ik I iv A. .. -. Y- Uv .Jr 1 -..om W iwg J, , ' I .. Gloria Troutman and Carl Pannabecker were the first peo ple to arrive. Gloria is in charge of the Math Department at Temple University and Carl is a mechanical engineer employed at Textile Machine Yorks. Donald Leiby and Walter Hill spy the eats and come arun ing. Both of them have their own business. Donald owns the Reading Eagle while Walter draws the cartoons for the paper. Just seeing Halter, reminds us of those cartoons he drew in school, and we heard thru the grapevine that Donald Lelby is busy making his first million. Shortly, we see Nancy Balthaser and Audrey Eyrich coming over the lawn. Nancy just finished a tour through the United States and Canada with an All Girls' Band Right now she is waiting for her next engagenent.Audrey flew up from Florida where she and her husband have been making their home All of us admired her wonderful sun tan. Just as we were about to sit down to eat,we heard nSa1l 1ng,Sa1l1ngL' We looked up My goshlnsomeone cr1es, the fleet is 1n.'Who should come strolling down over the lawn but John Haughney,Carl Binkley,Vill1am F1restone,Sherwood Reifsnyder, and George Snyder. All are in the Navy and are assigned to the same boat. They had received special leave so they could come to the reunion After lunch we went swimming. We soon became hungry and went up to the club house to get dressed for our formal din er dance. When we went into the dining room we were amazed at the beautiful floral decorations. Aside of each plate was a corsage of white carnations- for the girls and a carnation for each of the boys.Jay F1sner,thougntfully,provided these. Jay is a successful commercial flower--grower and has green- houses in four states. As we ate we enjoyed listening to the things that happened to each one of us since we graduated. After we finished our meal, Joan Machemer announced that the orchestra would play plenty of nSw1ng' music for us.Joan did her job of decorating the dance floor beaut1fully.She is now a private secretary. She works in the large modern office of a well-known doctor. We hear lively music and wonder what orchestra she engaged. We see Sammy Kaye and his orchestra on the bandstand featuring the singing of Perry Como. After we are tired of dancing someone makes a suggestion to go moonlight swim ing. After the swim we depart for home, each one resolving to have another reunion in five years in- stead of ten. s e 4 ,vga '. - 'L IL axl O, JUNE 25,l95U................................l2 NOON TO ?????
